New Trislander?

I have heard that a new Trislander aircraft is been created to replace the old ones.

does anyone know any info regarding this.

the trislander is a great aircraft and suits island hopping very well.

it would be great to see the type of aircraft to be revamped and still fly for a good 30yrs more.

A few years ago it was rumoured that there would be a turbine Trislander and also a single engined version (so not so much of a Trislander but you know what i mean) Not heard anything of late.

in 2003 britten norman / pilatus or whatever they are called announced they would have another production run "batch" of trislanders in an unknown amount based on interest.

the website current states "Britten-Norman are currently in the process of producing the first of the next production batch of the Trislander - the first Trislander to be produced for over 2 decades". not sure how accurate that is or when it was posted.

given the financial turmoil of the company over the years i will hold my breath.

it is a fantastic aircraft, but some of the G- reg ones for Aurigny etc are coming towards the end of the airframe lifetime with no real contenders in the market it is designed for

Ah, the Trislander. Fantastic aircraft!

Last I heard was that about 4 years ago production was to restart for a chinese regional carrier who were meant to be purchasing some, but I think they must have changed their minds unfortunately.

Don't know bout you guys but I can't really picture a single-engined Trislander in my head! A turbine version however would be great and would attract a lot of interest around the world at a guess.

Scouting the web a few items but, following announcement of the new production batch in '03, not much further news:

Brittan-Norman
The first of 24 green aircraft ordered by Britten-Norman Aircraft in July ’02 from its traditional airframe supplier, Romaero in Romania, arrived on the Isle of Wight in early October. After being fitted with a full interior and instrumentation and finished in corporate colours this aircraft was delivered to the customer in the first quarter of ‘03.

RockHopper
Rockhopper strengthens its fleet
24th March 2005
The Channel Island airline Rockhopper has added another Trislander to its fleet in preparation for what is likely to be its busiest summer ever on all routes. The new aircraft has the registration G-BEDP and has been bought from the southern England based airline, Lyddair. Rockhopper has already been using the aircraft on a lease basis to cope with its growing passenger numbers.

Think of the savings!

An extra turbine in the rear will mean less tyres to prop it up.
