well if easy jet want to battle for ireland they are very welcome to set up a mini base in cork. we are all aware of ryanair policy for cork mol doesnt give a hoot about the place so it would be great to see easyjet in cork. dispite the apperent tormoil on the stock exchange, to jo public its a recognisable brand. they could easily do the gatwick thing x3 daily and also a luton run or two then have a go at their european routes ex cork. hell while they are at it why not try an early and late cork dublin flight. that market is there for milking. no disrespect to the re boys..

DW11 - it goes on the N22 through the village but NOT past the airport on N23. I have also driven that road enough, and thus says Bus Eireann's website to boot.

To connect to Tralee-Cork you need to hoof it or connect using the Limerick bus or the local shuttle to Killarney which stops in Farranfore.

Mark,

First of all, at no point did I say that the bus stopped at the airport. I said that the bus stops in Farranfore (which is a whole half mile from the terminal).

What I did say was that there is already a near hourly service from Cork to Farranfore, which takes two hours and which bugger all people use to catch flights.

Now I'm sure that once Neidin's regional bus hub is built at Farranfore, Bus Eireann can manage to divert the hourly bus by a whole half mile. I'm also sure that there will still be bugger all people getting a bus from Cork to Farranfore to catch flights.

What is it with discussing CIE bus timetables? Is this some kind of Flann O'Brien, At swim two birds fantasy?

easyJet committing to Cork Airport with three daily flights from Gatwick is the best shot in the arm Cork Airport has ever had, in my opinion.

The people in charge at Cork Airport must be congratulated for their work on this matter so it is now time to say well done to the Cork Airport management. You may have some extra oats in your nose bags tonight!

Tom,

As buses are such a key part of operations at Cork, I'm suprised at your comments. I'm sure many Easyjet passengers will enjoy the bus ride from Shannon to Cork this winter.

Interesting that there's no trace of Neidin's bus terminal on google or on BE's website or on Kerry Airport's. In fact, BE on their main site make reference to four airport services, none of which are Kerry! (SNN/NOC/ORK/DUB)

Wishful thinking? Not the first time for that boy I think.

No idea. Good luck to RE with Lorient. However, the RYR from SNN to NTE is a hard one to follow and they may take from Cork? No good reason why Cork did not have a a flight to Nantes or Brest this summer.

However, RE, with just a x2/7 capacity to Lorient should still do quite well.

Sure thing, DW11, a bigger case now more than ever before for CATIII ILS to be installed at Cork Airport. No more stupid excuses.

CATIII for Cork Airport now!

Copy of the Kerry Airport release from Kerryman newspaper 2 June is below. Also spoke with the big fat guy at kerry Airport - Bellew today who confirmed it is underway. Bus Eireann told him reckon at times of flight operations there will be hourly service to Cork, Limerick, Tralee and Killarney.

Knock will get a similar service next year as well.

Dermot from LCY told me he saw it starting construction last week -

NEWS RELEASE
30 May 2005

Kerry Airport Lodges Planning to Build Public Transport Terminal

Farranfore, 30 May, Kerry Airport confirmed today that they are to apply for planning for a EURO €750,000 public transport terminal. If planning is approved the facility will commence construction in September 2005 for completion in early 2006.

The main features of the facility will include :-
• A secure defined entrance within the airport grounds for coaches.
• A restricted parking area for six large coaches.
• A very large turning circle for coaches separate to normal public traffic.
• A covered waiting area / shelter.
• 90 additional car park spaces.

The location of the proposed facility will be directly across from the existing airport terminal and require redevelopment of the existing small front car park.

The development follows three years of consultation with Bus Eireann who wish to provide additional service at Kerry Airport to link in with their extensive County and National route network. Kerry Airport has also consulted with Kerry County Council Roads Dept. and other relevant authorities.

The main purpose of the work is to provide significant additional long term public transport from Kerry Airport and to allow group, conference and incentive operators to have easy access for their passengers.

Kerry Airport believes that in the longer term this development will lead to additional new passenger traffic and improve uptake of public transport.

My first time on this board - a colleague pointed out to me some comments on my size and weight by a neidin! I am the Bellew at Kerry he refers to in his last post.

Well maybe I should take to the Gym to keep old Aer Lingus hacks happy.

Anyway - for clarity - Kerry is building a regional bus park which will have a good coverage of private and public bus services across the South West and to Cork, Limerick and Dublin. It should open just after Xmas 05.

Kerry replaced all security systems, ILS etc.. over last 24 months. and a large but low cost new arrivals/departures/ terminal is in planning. Airport is happy with great services by Ryanair and Aer Arann.

Best of luck to ORK,SNN and NOC with EasyJet. Low fares are good for everyone.

Neidin - Put your money where mouth is and sell EasyJet short tomorrow ahead of Friday results - then I will sign up for WeightWatchers.

Peter

So in summary:

Kerry Airport are improving facilities at the airport including coach and car parking.

Bus Eireann will use the new facilities, so that nobody has to walk the half mile from the village anymore.

cheers for the info Peter.

Don't suppose there's much hope of the ILS going to CAT3. Think of all the diversions you could rob off Shannon.

KIR get enough diversions from ORK as it is

Have to put my hands up and apologise on the bus terminal thing - the Kingdom has the same press release but I can't find it on the Kerry Airport w/site as they don't seem to archive them. Seemed funny that BE and KA weren't mentioning it but this is Ireland after all!

I see that one of the flights originates ex Knock and flies Knock/Gatwick/Knock.

Anyone with ideas from where it flies to Knock in the first place (from LPL?)?

dwlpl - what are you on about - on weekdays the flight arrives in NOC at 13:05 and departs again at 13:25 - on Sundays it is 15:30/15:50 - not the way you mentioned.

And I thought that easyJet always operated with 3 ORK, and only 1 SNN (I know for sure only one SNN as I thought it was daft at the time and still do!!!!).

So the share risk has prevented them from coming off. MOL must be very happy - a win-win situation for them really!!!

be interesting to see if they bring them back for summer 2006!!!

No. He's right...

FR1294 12:40 Depart Knock (NOC) 14:10 Arrive London Gatwick (LGW)

FR1295 14:40 Depart London Gatwick (LGW) 16:05 Arrive Knock (NOC)

I had assumed Stansted, but it doesn't fit in with the timings for the flight from there.

no, no, no you could have done a bit of `research` before posting, have you now found the times and confirmed that I was correct?

Thanks to 840 for confirmation.

So I did research, but not the right bit. A+ for effort, E for the outcome!!!
