Rumour has it that Virgin will operate a B744 into Edinburgh this week! Any info?

It has been reported that Branson is chartering one to bring people here for Live8. Not sure about it being this week though. All that was mentioned in the article was "Monday". So presumably 4th July? I don't even know if anything has been confirmed.

VS are regular visitors on training sorties to PIK so not quite so rare north of the border but good to see one on a passenger charter

A 744 at EDI - that won't make a few people happy.

At a guess probably ensuring whoever is piloting Mr Blair in from Singapore (he's there supporting London's Olympic Bid) knows the full make up of the place ... after all with the PM, you probably want a bit of practice.

Yep , the EDI ops guys will be grinding their teeth 'cos they'll be faced with cleaning up the runway debris ie broken light fittings etc . 'Cos that's what happens every time a 747 visits EDI!

Not entirely true, try not to exaggerate, but then, the same happens elsewhere, happened at GLA, and I don't know if you watch Top Gear? But they had to be very careful not to rip up the runway with that B744. Something that all airport ops has to deal with from time to time.

The VS 744 to do the Top Gear show was at PIK and the 'car blasting' was done on PIK's secondary runway 21/03 with no ill effects of any description apparently.

Let us see how these larger aircraft cope with the new taxiway extensions - and the wing tip clearances on the holding loops [if in use] at each end of the taxiways for 06/24 before take-off.

There won't be any problem with wingtip clearances in the holding bay against the 747.......
You can't put anything bigger than A321's past each other so there'll be nothing going past the 747.

Problem solved

Looks like it's happening, latest talk is of an 11am arrival on Monday the 4th. Subject to change (or not happen), of course.

Well, it was called a 'Live8 jumbo', so presumably in connection with that, and not the actual summit.

I hope they have a slot then. Would be great to delay Bush and Co in preference

Bush and all are going to Prestwick. Which means delays for Ryanair no doubt.

No doubt a trivia question to be answered shortly is how many USAF aircraft are there going to be in Prestwick/Glasgow International.
