1st flight to use the "new ABZ" is a BMI A320,from Alicante,scheduled 0135hrs.

You do realise that the objectors will probably be out around the airport perimeter measuring the noise?!
Making more noise than the aircraft!
Perhaps BMI should do a celebratory go-around to celebrate the commencement of 24hr ops?

Yes it did happen,and it was so quiet that NO-ONE heard it land.
Well,except Cllr Clark...now how did I know HE would be there,no doubt measuring noise levels("...awa' ye go it's AFFA noisy...").Even HE said it was quiet(pity

ASCIL-After many years wrangling,councillors gave go-ahead for ABZ 24hr opening.It was seen as vital to the future of the area,making it a more attractive proposition for businesses & leisure to come to this area.The hope is more airlines & holiday companies will fly to ABZ,knowing that there are now no restrictions to get in the way.No more curfews,no more aircraft stuck overnight at ABZ,no more angry pax stuck at Aberdeen hotels,no more ABZ pax inbound having to be bussed up from EDI/GLA,or gaving their flights to ABZ canx because they couldn't beat the curfew.

Just for Info - No official notification of a change in opening hours has been issued as far as the UK AIP on the intranet and out office copy which is up to date or our NOTAMS database for that matter...... not to say it wont happen eventually.....still have to apply for extensions after 2230L and up to 2330L for arrivals and 2300L for deps...

I don't think it's anything to do with ATC Richard, I would guess that it is up to AAL to organise the entry in the Aerodrome section of the AIP and the associated NOTAM.
I have heard that movements between 2300 and 0610 are basically treated as extensions, are very much PPR and have to pay a wodge of extra dosh to AAL and NATS for the privelge.
That will probably keep the numbers down and keep cooncillor Clark smiling!

I think ABZlad has got it spot on.
It appears that ABZ will operate in common with many other UK airports, in that it is available H24, but operations between 0001 and 0600 will attract a hefty extension fee and are PPR.
That said, there has been a "standby" ATCO on duty at night at ABZ for quite some time now, (for offshore emergency helicopters and medic fixed wing aircraft only).

How can they work it with baggage handlers- 1 night shift a week?
Who is it that handles bmi? Ive applied for a job at the airport, only a 25hr contract but have been told theres plenty of o/time if im succesful in getting the job.
