manchester chaos
Anyone like me wandering why Manchester airport have decided to dig up all the taxiways just in time for summer ? chaos this morning, aircraft going everywhere, when eventually you can get pushback.
Same goes in the arrivals hall, terminal 1 where they have decided to re-route all the pax through a building site, the exit of which isn't big enough, hence passengers backed up blocking baggage belts !
Same goes on the road system where they have created such a mess with the spaghetti road system that 2 flights arriving together causes the whole road system to become clogged up nearly all the way to the motorway !!!
Who are these people who decide these things ?

Please Longstay, visit Dublin any day, any month and you will
find out what chaos really is!
We all know what a joke the terminal is, but when the dig holes
on the taxiways they excel themselves, dig 'em up and leave them, thats their policy, never mind the inconvenience lets take 2 months to complete a 2 day job!

What about Fred West? As mere staff you must understand that you are of no consequence and your contribution to the success (or otherwise) is also of no consequence. Local Authority Airport run by Local Authority. Any questions?

Sadly, its all come to this.
In '97 & '98, MAN worked reasonably well.
First it was the taxiway re-designation....then apparantly all down hill from there.
ATC ain't bad, though.

Trundled out to cross to 24L last week and passed a large piece of metal, which I assume is covering a hole, and I swear it was there 8 years ago. Please tell me I'm wrong.

What they actually got wrong was not digging a trench across both runways .... this would ensure that no aircraft could depart and later deposit a bunch of drunken tatooed Manchunians onto our precious Mediterranean beaches this summer....

Seriously.... sorry to hear about the problems. Lot of good ATC people up there. Can't Jenks sort 'em out, or is he banished to an armchair and carpet slippers like me now??

Looking at the NOTAMS it would appear that the work on Taxiway Delta is due to finish tonight - in fact I heard last night that repainting was going on of the normal taxiway centre-lines.
The closure of Taxiway N through N1 is changed from tomorrow night to 2030-0500, rather than 24hours.
Hopefully that will help, and also mean that the new stands being constructed can be in use before the end of June.
By the way, when is the best time - from a technical point of view - to lay new apron?

Summertime. Longer daylight (productivity higher in daylight than under arc-lights). Operatives also more productive on outdoor work in good weather. Higher temperatures allow materials, blacktop, concrete, even paint, to cure quicker so you can start the next stage quicker. Some materials cannot be laid in cold winter temperatures.

The steel plate mentioned earlier will be the same one. It will however, have been lifted, replaced, lifted etc etc etc etc to cope with the ever losing battle of holes in taxiways at MAN. I know the guy who laid the original concrete. He sometimes writes to me from the Cayman Islands. His brother did the drains in Area 7 Car Park - the ones that have been blocked for the thick end of 2 years. I understand there are 14lb trout in the resulting lake.
