LCY-ABZ route?

Does anyone know of any prospective operators for this route? I understand several from EDI and one from Dundee, but was curious if any operator was potentialy planning this route?

I thought about a year back that VLM were rumoured to be sniffing around, but nothing came of it.

ScotAirways "suspended" the route early 2002,at a time when ABZ pax numbers were falling ( & post 9-11).

With ABZ being BAA Scotland's fatest growing airport just now,I would hope someone may be interested.

Ad-hoc Centreline have an "on-demand" charter service between LCY & ABZ (as they do with EDI & NCL - LCY) but at £4000 a time,I haven't heard any flights yet!

Wonder why?

Eastern are rumoured to be looking into a few prospective routes from LCY, rumoured to be possibly ABZ, INV & NCL. Their Jetstream 41s have made a few visits to LCY recently (crew training?)

It would be good if someone picked the route up again. I found it so much easier than Heathrow or Gatwick when going into London but that's just my preferance.
It was quite handy when i was back and forth to STN from ABZ for a former employer after said former employer dropped the ABZ-STN route!!

Richard, not been picky mate but wasn't it Flybe under their former guise that Operated that route back in 2002. Don't think we ever had any ScotAirways activity back then.

Cheers
S.

Hi Rooster,ScotAirways actually picked up the LCY route after Jersey European (as was) dropped it.They had used Bae146 on 3x Mon-Fri & a Sun flight, but downgraded it to a DHC8-200,before axing it due poor loads.

Scottie picked it up with a DO328 on same freq, but didn't work for them either,so it was dropped.

As I remember, fares were sky-high...someone wrote to the P&J after the route was dropped to say that ScotAirways charged even higher fares than Jersey had done!

If somebody picked it up again, they may have more success, with pax increasing at ABZ now -when the route was axed, was post Sept 11 & at a time when pax at ABZ were falling.

My old employer dropped ABZ-STN when KLM came asset-stripping,about 1999.About time someone returned to the route(& I'm NOT talking about Omega!!)

Wouldn't surprise me if Eastern were looking at it,I've heard previous rumours about them looking at ABZ & indeed NCL to LCY (the latter with a Saab 2000).However I also recall EZE mention STN as a possible ABZ route...maybe they'll do BOTH(then again...!)

That could be why a very pretty Eastern SB20 turned up this week.

It didn't stay long, just landed, parked and then after an hour departed.

I remmember the days when we flew to Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburg, Dundee and Inverness.

Now we have loads of Edinburg and the occasional Dundee.
