PIK £3m Terminal Upgrade

Glasgow Prestwick Airport is getting a new £3m face for the twenty-first century.
It's under wraps at present as contractors work behind the scenes to transform parts of the airport which was designed and built in the 1960s.
Chief Executive Steven Fitzgerald explained: "Now that Prestwick has reached over two million passengers a year and is anticipating continuing strong growth, Infratil, the airport's owners, are investing up to £3m to ensure Scotland's fastest-growing airport becomes Scotland's smartest-looking airport."
The terminal is being transformed by a makeover of the check-in area. But the big change will be in the airport's retail outlets which are getting a massive facelift with eye-catching new shopfitting and new signage. The central concourse area is also being overhauled with new floor coverings and new retail units being added.
Mr Fitzgerald added: "Every day, some six thousand people pass through our airport, and we want to make sure that their experience of Prestwick in this short time is memorable and the best it can be. For many visitors flying into Scotland with Ryanair, we are their gateway into the country, so we want their first impressions to be excellent."
Retail and Property Director David Grant said: "We'll be introducing some exciting new retailers in the months ahead. Our passengers are always asking for more shops to browse in, particularly health and beauty or gifts.
"Later in the year, we also plan to completely refurbish the airport's Tax and Duty Free store. This will result in more fantastic offers across our excellent range of perfumes, with big brand names up to 20% below High Street prices, so our customers can be sure of big savings when they buy at Prestwick."
Mr Fitzgerald said: "In a world of anodyne airport terminals, we know that our passengers love the unique individuality of Glasgow Prestwick. The combination of low fares, friendly staff and convenient facilities makes travelling from Prestwick an enjoyable experience.
"We therefore intend to build on this and, by investing in the terminal and its facilities, we will continue to accommodate the tremendous growth Prestwick has achieved in recent years. It's our aim to give our customers, staff and the local community an airport of which they can be very proud. They're going to love our new face."

About time too!
I dropped into PIK for the first time last Saturday and frankly the entrance hall smelt like a public convenience, and as for the check-in area, well it looked absolutely awful! Although in it's defence, there is work in progress.
I appreciate the as a "Ryanair-port" the airport company is probably earning half of nothing from Ryanair for their business, but really, even passengers paying more in so-called "taxes" than the airfare ought to expect something a little better than this.
I can't help thinking though that these days £3 million is very little investment - more like a Bandaid job, but we'll have to wait and see how much value they've got for their cash.

Have to agree there ATN, £3million is a drop in the ocean these days and I think it would take at least 10x that amount to have PIK looking much better than it has done over the last few years!

There is a dedicated check in area for outgoing flights but it is very cramped at present and at peak times it is mayhem. The staff seem to cope and most passengers seem to accept the work that is going on.
