Brighton City (Shoreham) Commercial Ops?

I know that Rockhopper and Euroexec both have scheduled operations out of Brighton City as it's now known, but I was wondering if there is anymore scope for expansion? Obviously the airport is restricted by runway length, but what is the biggest fully laden aircraft that can get in and out of the airport?

Surely routes to Manchester and Birmingham and maybe even London could work quite nicely from Brighton?

LOL!! I guess you could fly the few miles to Gatwick. Or maybe to Stansted and then travel halfway back again!!

Seriously, over such a short distance, flying just isn't competive against the railway.

Gatwick - that would be 'Brighton North', wouldn't it?

Or an Islander into Heathrow - it could land widthways.

There would be scope for limited flights to the likes of Amsterdam, Manchester and Dublin. The problem is the runway. It is very narrow.

Anyone know if something like an ATR could get in there?

Regards

I don't think the issue is whether the types can get in or out of Brighton City, the real question is can they carry any reasonable payload in or out to destinations that are not already very adequately served out of Gatwick.

My guess is that the Dornier 328, Jetsream 41 might be ok but I don't have any performance books to check that out, but the runway width is an issue for larger aircraft.

Rockhopper are adding an extra flight per week from March. Changing the schedule on a Thursday to have a morning and afternoon flight to allow 'day trips' to Alderney.

EuroExec planned to get a Dornier 228, although i dont see it happening!
