Qantas/Flightline MAN/LHR vv any pax??

Hi folks

Are Qantas/Flightline Manchester/Heathrow flights carrying revenue pax on board these Bae146 flights?

I suspect it is a slot protection device similar to the BMA EMA/LHR
opp. many years ago, using a SHorts360...

Thanks for any replies

Yep! I believe so. The first flight takes pax from early morning QF arrivals up north and the return flight pax to catch the 2 midday departures to WSSS and VHHH. Don't know loads etc...

Cheers!

Does BA or any other oneworld alliance member (or anyone else for that matter) codeshare these flights?

Not sure if there is a code share on this, but BA and other
One World partners (including QF) code share throughout
the day via the regular BA shuttle....

..Bizarre state of affairs!

I flew on QF1 from SYD-LHR last month, then caught the BA shuttle to MAN. The Qantas 146-operated connecting flight wasn't offered to me at the time of booking the flights (November). I have heard that the loads are shocking (empty, 1 or 2 passengers,) with almost all connecting passengers being put onto the BA shuttle.

Interestingly, if you look at the route map in the Qantas inflight magazine, it shows them serving Manchester directly - their other UK destinations show up with a different coloured line, which, when you look at the key on the map, says something like "Operated by British Airways".

sounds to me like the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is up to at QANTAS.

Burning money for no real logical beneficial reason.

Going right back to the start of this thread, it looks very much as though the QF LHR/MAN operation is little more than a slot retention exercise.

At the same time, for no apparent gain it is needlessly chucking CO2 into the atmosphere. Still Australia never did have much truck with the Kyoto Agreement, perhaps from this we can learn something of the Aussie mentality towards the planet and it's future??

Head down, boomerang incoming.......

Qantas know exactly what they are doing. It is a slot protection exercise and any passengers at all are a bonus.

Yes, and I wouldn't say it was "burning money for no real logical beneficial reason". There ought to be better ways to slot-sit, but there aren't.

VS is even asking BA, of all airlines, to slot-sit for them now.

really!?

I knew this went on but didnt know that it was so frivolous. surely an airline watching the pennies would try and make some money out of slot-sitting. especially at an airport such as Heathrow.

If i was running the airline I would ensure those flights were sold as much as any other. Careless really. And damaging to the environment if it is of no benefit to the consumer.

I think FRA is going (see D&G) so presumably the c/s will too at that point.

If FRA is going then QF will only be flying to LAX and LHR?

Thanks to all for the confirmation of the slot keeping exercise!

It is a shame that the customer cannot benefit from a better
Terminal 4 connection that the Bae146 of Flightline might provide, instead the punter has to make do with a Terminal 1 (shuttle) connection and a bus trip

All the best
