Lufthansa takeover of Swiss.
It is being reported by the Swiss magazine Bilanz that Lufthansa and Swiss have reached a preliminary deal on the takeover of Swiss by Lufthansa. It is conditional on more cost reductions being implemented by Swiss, by reaching a new contract deal with its pilots, flight attendants and the groundstaff. Also lease contracts for aircraft have to be altered. Additionally 200 million Euros in additional investment would need to be found by Swiss. It is expected that the official deal will be consummated by the end of this year. This is to be followed by full integration of their schedules by the summer of 2006 season.
This move was precipitated by the failure in 2004 to reach a deal between Swiss and BA.
It looks like the landscape in Europe is indeed boiling down to three major airline groupings. I wonder what BA will be able to do to increase their scope in mainland Europe.

Portugalia has rejected TAP Portugal offer (100% of Portugalia for 10% of TAP) all eyes are on Air France now, but this is aviation, maybe TAP will re-consider who knows.

Lusthansa v. the current disaster
Um,
Not necessarily a bad thing as the present c*#p can't go on much longer and stay sane. Personal feeling is that BA would have been the better deal all round, but .... inch Allah as it is said.
At least then the Lusthansa Board can have the pleasure of eliminating the current CEO (again) and save another Millon CHF.
If this doesn't happen ther is even more space for Easy - they could soon have their own country to serve !!!

LH - Swiss
Last year in june, Lufthansa has increased it's capital by 750 million euros. It was always suspected that the capital increase was intended to do some shopping.
Official statement has always been, that Lufthansa would need the money to finance their A380 fleet.

I don't see Zürich, Basel, or Geneva for that matter, working out as partial hubs with FRA & MUC doing the long haul and BER wanting to end up in that space also... even DUS and HAM suffer... so where would that leave this little empire - lost in the quagmire ???
LHR is far enough away to merit having some long haul out of CH, and would have let BA have a european safe haven. Otherwise it will end up being those who can make a go of it in CH (Qantas & CX have opted out of ZRH and many others have put it up for debate - MAS...) and so basically Emirates might well be the only Asian direction and the US must be flown via somewhere. Sad the end of an empire and a pain having to change planes all the time.
And as far as CF is concerned - should go back to H4 land and unemployment - overpaid incompetent stooges like that, just make the situation worse and build up or reawaken the intense national dislikes of the past. didn't mean to offend, but the guy is just a p*#!k of the last water - ugh!

Well, at least CF has done something, and if I look at current LF and some other facts like that if I want to go to KMIA I can chose between LX for some 1300 CHF, or CO/DL/UA for some 650+ CHF, you can guess what I would take. But strange enough LX can ask this price and their LF is not looking bad, on the contrary. The LX flights are pretty full with decent revenues and the CO/DL/UA flights are... well let us say that there seem to be room for improvement. Just a little spotlight, I know, but that spotlight reveals something, doesn't it?
So CF is a 'peice of C**P' becasue he did what AD should have done, and that is reduce the regional/short haul to a proper and financially accepteable size?
Gofer, stop dreaming. Contrary to what you read in the oh so informed by SM - Press the former MS' flying circus was not able to stand on its own feet. And it was time that someone takes the consequence and does something about. I know that this is very hard for some people, I know some of them myself, but do you prefer to continue to dream and have a second collapse?
