Luton Just Keeps Accelerating!

Latest figures for Luton (Jan 05) show:

- 26% increase in movements
- 20% increase in pax

Forecast for the year to December 2005 are that Luton will reach or exceed the 'big one zero' for annual movements and passengers - 10,000,000 passengers and 100,000 movements (less than 3% accounted for by 'light' aircraft and helicopter movements).

Combined with a cash-rich operating company (market capitalisation over £40bn), and a number of operators now "knocking at the door", things look pretty good at the moment!

To get to 10,000,000 LTN would need an increase of 33% this year. My guess is that 9,000,000 is more realistic which is 20%. The Wizz routes will be a year old from the spring so all the growth will come from Ryanair.

Correct! And Ryanair has stated it's aim is to put 2M passengers through Luton by the end of the 05/06 financial year.

Rolling total to the end of December was 7.4 million so if Ryanair achieves this target, that's 9.4 million. The big question is whether Luton is able to attract any of the operators which it's alledgedly speaking to. With peak-time slots and parking at Stansted being in short supply, seems quite likely that Luton could pick up some additional non-easyJet, non-Ryanair, non-Wizz business although whether this would amount to just over half a million annual passengers very much remains to be seen.

However, IF the three additional aircraft and extra routes that Ryanair are SUPPOSEDLY bringing to Luton from September 2005 materialise, guess that additional 0.5 million could be achieved....??
