Travelcity Direct Opening Base at CWL?

There are a number of rumours circulating around at the moment that a new airline is coming to cardiff international airport operating flights to America (orlando), cyprus and Iceland.

This is in addition to Zoom operating in and out of Cardiff in the upcoming months, with there flights to canada.

There has also been a little further clarification in this months flight magazine, which in the job section clearly shows an advert for Capatins and First Officers to be recruited for the 747/757/737 to be based out of cardiff along I would assume with Cabin Crew. The airline in question being Travel City

Now I know that they based a single 747 in the summer out of cardiff to operate flights to orlando, and I am also aware that they had there fair share of problems, but it would seem that Travelcity are now in the process of starting an actual full time base.

Please can anyone help with the above questions and speculation??

Thanx

SDM

I think you might be reading too much into something you may have seen or heard. Firstly, the advert for Classic Captains/FOs in this week's Flight makes no reference to a Cardiff base. I suspect Travel City will continue as last year with Gatwick based Air Atlanta Europe Flight and Cabin Crew operating the services from Cardiff to Orlando. Yes there were problems on this route mainly because of the difficulty of lifting the load from Cardiff's runway. Hopefully, this will be resolved this year using Classics with more powerful engines.

I dont believe the runway was the cause to the majority of their problems - such as wheels bursting on landing on one occasion causing 24+ hour delays.

You stae there was one occasion when delays were caused by burst tyres. So what was the cause of all the other problems?
All I do know is at least one flight called into Shannon on the way to Orlando because the weight could not be lifted from Cardiff. W

I think there was only one that went into shannon.

Part of the problem could be that they have to fill the aircraft using only 2 tankers because there is no underground feed. Isn't it something like 17 tankers to fill one of those beasts to the top?

Oh yeah, all the passengers were bussed to the aircraft as well, lets say the aircraft was half full from Gatwick, thats at least 7 bus loads from Cardiff.

I watched the thing go, it got out with a high temperature and a high dew point off runway 30, with little head wind. Don't think it has too much to do with runway length.

I think maybe its about time something was done with the ground handling at cardiff, I would expect that was a major reason for Cardiff missing out on the daily CO to Newark.

I think they lost the New York link because the airport has no direction!Things move forward two steps then back one all the time!look at baby great at the start, then expansion stopped. The airport needs a more out going marketing.Good airport just need the airlines to come in?

Does it really take 17 tankers to do a 74?
Sounds an awful lot.

It would be nice to see CWL 'take off' , hopefully the AENA guys will sort it out. It can only go two ways.

The one I dispatched used 2 tankers to uplift to 94,000kg. I can't remember how much was already onboard. It also had to make a tech stop in Shannon.
