Shoreham for sale
Shoreham airport is up for sale, advertised in this weeks FLight International magazine.
Although the advert states that there is a tenanted income of £840K per year, I can't imagine that that income plus landing fees is enough to keep the place running as it stands at the moment.
Please correct me if I am wrong, I assume that the joint councils make up the difference, and are under pressure from rate payers to put that money to "better use".
I've no idea what sort of price the airport (97ha - 240 acres) would attract, but I can't imagine that anyone other than an asset stripper (investment banker) would be able to afford to buy it and get a return from the place as it is currently run.
There is very limited potential for any expansion, and a fairly vociferous anti airport lobby which would strongly oppose any development.
Hopefully there will be no interest and it stays as it is.

Rockhopper fly six weekly flights to Alderney dubbing the airport 'Brighton City'. Pretty good marketing idea.
As for other services, euroexec operate small aircraft check out their website (www.euroexec.com) but dont know how many pax they actually get.
Good theme to stick with Brighton City, im sure there would be a limited amount of scheduled traffic to attract. Not to mention the inbound potential from EU countries.

Agreed... It is a good idea, marketing wise but since when has Brighton been a city?
Finger's crossed there won't be a Brighton, Hove & Worthing housing estate in a few years.

I was under the impression that you had to have a catherdral in order to be classed as a city.
It doesn't seem the two are correlated in any way, these days.
Another tradition down the pan.
Back to the thread, I've enjoyed visiting Shoreham over the years and I would be really sad to see it go the way of so many other sites in recent years, West Malling, Hatfield, Leavesden, the 2 airfields now occupied by Toyota and Honda factories etc etc.
The locals will I'm sure regret it if it turns into an industrial or housing estate. As someone else said, it's the only bit of green left along that bit of coast.
Cheers,
