Shannon Airport Staff to be cut by 50%
Shannon Airport Authoruty confirmed yesterday that they are to cut staff by 50%. They have set aside EURO 20 million fund for 261 "voluntary" redundancies. All over Irish media. I guess you cannot pay Ryanair 50c per passenger for using your airport and still expect to have some staff!

Don't get me wrong. I hope a good package is put together for anyone taking early retirement at Shannon. With the massive cost of living we have to put up in this disappointment of a country it will be essential to retire with as much dough as possible.
I hope a similar fund is put together to offer voluntary redundancies to airport workers at Cork. A good number of them have not the slightest interest in aviation and are professionally only worried about two things: Is it 5 pm yet and time to go home and how much pension will I have when I retire?
As you have brought up the topic and as reluctant as I am to concede it I think Neidin is correct in coming to the conclusion that the deal made by Shannon with Ryanair will wreck regional aviation in Ireland in the short to mid term. In this respect I am including Cork in the regional aviation umbrella.
So, the shafting by Shannon of Cork for so many decades now appears to be continuing in the above context at least. Independance from May might put it up more to the new powers at Cork so there is a chance of us at last seeing some rebel spirt at Cork Airport instead of apathy. We will see.
