New EZY routes from BFS

Hi All,

Seems we are getting Rome and Berlin from BFS.

EZY are doing wonders for the travelling options for those
living in N.Ireland.

If the prices are competitive it may the reverse trend of previous years trends were residents of Ireland may now come North to pick up a bargain holiday destination or two, especially if the euro continues to remain strong.

Passenger "leakage" from N.Ireland to Dublin airport was estimated to be around 1million passengers per annum.

I think this now firmly shuts the door on the operators at BHD
offering any European destinations in the future. It would be difficult to see where else they could offer.

Brussels, maybe? I know that the hub at BRU is a shadow of its former self, but for passengers who want to connect to onward destinations, there isn't any network-carrier service from Belfast to a hub other than Heathrow (or Manchester, to stretch a point), is there?

Just out of interest (because I've never done it) ... if I walk into the British Airways Travel Shop on Fountain Place in Belfast and buy a BA holiday that involves long haul flights from LHR, will I be sold a two leg connection BHD -> MAN -> LHR? Or does there exist some amicable (ha!) agreement between BA and BMI, who pound BHD - LHR eight times daily, with several rotations using an A321 (and yep, they can fill it).

Odd really... BA have a long-haul hub at LHR, and BMI have one at MAN. But their polite 'agreement' means neither can feed passengers from N.I. to directly their long-haul hubs.

BA will book long haul pax from Belfast using LHR using bmi from the City. Done regularly - my parents flew this way to Singapore and Oz last year using BA longhaul and they were taken to LHR using bmi. Same thing has happened this week as they have gone to the States, again using BA, and again using bmi to get to T4 at LHR.

Correct we if I'm wrong but I don't think the above is actually true. As far as BA is concerned there are no feeder agreements in place with any other airline to either Heathrow or Gatwick. You can't ring up BA or go to their website and purchase these fares.

Consolidators do package these however. bmi to LHR and FlyBe to LGW. Those are the fares being sold. Not just for BA, but for Virgin and other non-Star-Alliance airlines.
The BA travel shop is a separate business unit in any case. They are either doing these themselves or buying from a local consolidator such as Corporate Travel.

I'm have several long-haul flights booked out of both LHR and LGW, in all cases I have had to buy a separate connection. Its a real pain especially if connections fail. Flying to Gatwick now they won't even let you check you bag through any longer. (FlyBe to BA)

But thats where the loss of the BA-LHR flights have left us.

If a person,or a family, want to travel to the Americas from Belfast International then from May 27th the world is their oyster. The Bfs Ewr CO95 lands at New York,Newark Liberty Airport at 1130am,and has the pick of connections all over the north, south east and west.Alas, London Heathrow becomes even more less important to Northen Ireland.

Perhaps my wording was not as accurate as it should have been - you are technically correct. My parents' trips were arranged through Trailfinders, who sorted out the BHD-LHR sectors using bmi and the longhaul sectors using BA. Their baggage was tagged for their final destination in each case, and transferred at LHR, and they were ticketed for their final destination too, i.e. they did not have to treat the BHD-LHR sector as a separate flight, after which they collected their baggage before checking in again for their longhaul sectors. From that point of view it appears to most pax that an arrangement exists between bmi and BA to allow interlining of some description.

After all the discussion I actually did what I asked about and walked into the BA Travel Shop in Belfast yesterday to ask about long haul passengers connecting from BHD to LHR.

The sales assistant explained the while the BA website couldn't do it, if a passenger bought a long haul flight in the travel agency, they would be routed with BMI (or as she said 'British Midland' ... that pesky re-branding still hasn't filtered through
