Staff West at Manchester????????
Overheard this morning, Staff west to be closed before November 05, two things.
1. Where exactly are they going to move thousands of staff who already have limited parking
2. Is it really to make way for the so called "lo-cost terminal" (4)?
have MAPLC totally lost the plot this time?
answers on a postcard to Stuck at the barrier, Manchester airport......

Whilst nothing would surprise me at "non moving walkway international airport". I would doubt the LCCs would be happy moving even further away from the operational runways on 25 minute turnarounds. Hence Ryanair is on the move from T2 to T1 to cut down turn around / ground congestion times.

I think its to do with the expansion of the west apron for additional parking of aircraft and extension to the west wing of T2. 4 747 size stands I think.
My sympathy to all staff with cars, but it looks like you are going to have to park in new carparks in the Moss Nook area. I sometimes park in the side roads of Heald Green and catch the train in, its about 80 pence return.
I think the right to car parking space is long gone. !
I also have heard that there are no plans for a lo cost terminal, just better utilisation of existing facilities.
with regard to Ryanairs move to T1, its nothing to do with turnaround times, the skinflint MOL is trying to save tyre rubber !!

I've seen the demise of staff car parking at Heathrow and Stansted over the last decade. However, I agree with MAN777. Car parking is not a right and people who work at airports should be as sensitive as anyone to the problems of road congestion.
Bite the bullet and take public transport where you can. It's really not as bad as it's made out to be- especially around an International airport like MAN. Take a good book and do something useful with the precious time being made available to you. You never know, you might sit next to someone interesting. I managed an A-level in French in just 6 months commuting from Altrincham to the centre of Manchester (and still had time to find some regular chat buddies).

I can see it now……….
Hello, this is crewing. We need to call you out. Can you please be here in 90 minutes as per your contract?
Well, I will do my best but I will need to consult the bus and train timetable and I will then be able to give you an ETA for my arrival in Ops.
Oh, by the way. Presumably all the passengers are there having parked their cars in the various long stay car parks.
I rest my case!!

Public transport? Yeah right. So how do i get my big heavy tool box to the maintenance area hangars by public transport?
How about when i get call out from home for a U/S aircraft and i'm the only one with cover.."Ladies & Gentlemen, sorry for the delay to your flight, the Engineer is waiting for a bus". Cool.
Public transport is great for people who work in town centres and during office hours.

I believe the airport are looking to run a staff car park shuttle bus from Cheadle Hulme are after having apparently purchased some land out that way to use as a staff car park.
Though I also heard that government workers like immigration and customs will be given central multi-storey car parking after the closure of staff west. Anyone know if this is the case, the lucky bleeders!!

don't think i'll bother with the scooter, the commute's too far I'll stick to my nice warm car thanks!!
As for getting public transport, sorry but don't make me laugh! The last bus past my house in any direction (and there are only two) is midnight, I would then have to change buses and it takes hours, nearest train station with a direct train service is piccadilly which is 12miles away. I know the bus takes hours because I did it once, 2hours door to door or 15 mins in a car hmm, tough one that!
by the way, when did parking become a privilage when either the employee or the employer has to pay for it?

lexxity- your commute is 15 minutes door to door and you're complaining about the impact of parking further away? Unless I've misunderstood your gripe, I think you need to get some perspective and realise how lucky you have been.
The average commute time in the UK is 45 minutes per day according to the RAC.

MAN777. I came back to my car once in a side road near to Heald Green train station only to find it had two punctured tyres. Stabbed by an over zealous local! That was back in 2000, but beware.
I have a 60 mile commute, pretty much all motorway. No problem in the car. Just not possible by public transport, especially with a silly o'clock report. No busses or trains during night time.
Even during office hours public transport turns a 60 minute journey into 3 hours each way. Try that on a min rest.

I'm curious as to what you would expect from a less zealous local silverhawk? As if you would've accepted a smashed rear quarterlight in Gtr Manc as quite reasonable, but 2 stabbed tyres is just too much

clickrich - thats 15mins all motorway at 4am, not down the motorway is an 50mins. Thats to the carpark not to the door! Usually takes me longer from staffwest - T3 than the drive in. I am very lucky that I am so close, I feel sorry for the poor buggers who come in from over the hills and such like.
I would do public transport, but there isn't any when I need it and I am not stpuid enough to travel at night on my own on public transport, so my car is the safest and quickest option, not neccesarily the cheapest, but at least I'm safe (I lock my doors).
My main point is that MA PLC seem to forget that without staff there is no airport. If they do move our parking then it will go down like a ton of bricks.

also heard the rumor that they may do drop off/pick up points dependant on your postcode ie anyone with a SK would be picked up from stockport bus station! This is a brilliant idea, except there are no public bus services when we need them and local parking in stockport is dire, etc.... If they do this it will be hysterical to see the number of resignations handed in
