US Airways asks employees to work for free

As if the Christmas weekend fiasco wasn't enough, now comes this.

Excerpt:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - US Airways, the bankrupt No. 7 U.S. airline, is seeking volunteers from non-union staff to work for free at its troubled Philadelphia operations over the New Year's weekend, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

Is the rest of the industry following pilots?

Well, that's the next step isn't it? Pilots have been working for free for the first year or even paying to work at some airlines. Now that management have squeezed as much as they can out of the rest of the workforce, they ask them to work for free. It can't be long before they'll be asking them to pay to work there. Funnily enough this still won't be enough to make them profitable.

The point is:

(Reuters)"This is a volunteer program...It promises to be a rewarding opportunity to learn more about the operation of our airline and come face to face with our customers." (I can hardly wait )
