FlyJet short of aircraft?

Some rather unhappy people according to a review on one of the customer websites. Whilst I could understand that this could happen to any airline for one day, for the same thing to happen on two days running appears to be extraordinary. Are both of their 757s still running around OK?

Date of Entry Thursday 23rd of December, 2004
Return Ticket? Yes
Ticket Class? Charter
International Flight? Don't Know
Does the passenger take regular flights (with any airline)? Yes
Service marks (out of 10) 0
Flight on time marks (out of 10) 0
Comfort marks (out of 10)
Value marks (out of 10)
Would you fly with this Airline again? No

General comments? This Airline was used by Canterbury Travel for a day trip to visit Santa. For the second day running, which was the flight we were on, the airline did not supply the plane.

This is despite them being aware, despite their insistence that the plane would be ready, that the plane would not be operational. The flight should have taken off at 07.35. At 11.35 the passengers were informed that the trip was canceled. So lots of crying children missing out on a dream trip.

If using this company be aware they only have two planes and that both can break down, not be servicable at the same time.

Surely at this time of the year, several other charter operators have spare capacity (aircraft) around that canm be brought in at short notice?

Ad hoc, on the day, it would be fairly difficult to crew one of those Santa specials as they are long trips, often using split duty rules to the maximum. Going to a place you have not been to before, winterisation procedures, engineering support, pushes split duty rules to the limit and are only achieved by maximum crew cooperation, normally ok as better than the usual to FUE or TFS!.

If it was set up the day before then you would have a good chance of getting a plane and crew.

When it goes wrong you get a small time window and thats it, you have no choice but to cancel. Canterbury Travel are probably the market leaders in santa specials and i would imagine they will use airline X next year...

get round the split duty rule by extending the layover time so as to provide a minimum rest period........that way, the kiddies get to stay in Santaland a bit longer !! Nothing is impossible in Santaland

Wouldn't it be a better idea if "Canterbury Travel" actually used an airline that is reliable?

FlyJet are not the most reliable airline at the best of times, so why bother using them?

Surely of all the one off charters you get in the year this is the one you would absolutely bend over backwards to operate.

I've noticed that during the last few days, Flyjet have been using A310s (or was it A300s?) from French outfit Eagle Aviation out of Gatwick & Manchester. Presumably FJEs 75s are still poorly?

Bare in mind that nearly every other UK charter outfit are operating these Santa flights too aswell as normal daytrips to the likes of SZG and VCE etc etc plus the normal charter stuff to TFS etc So capacity at this time of year is few and far between.

I remember hearing a rumour, and it might have been on PPRUNe so try and verify it for me, but that Flyjet were planning to replace G-FJEA/G-FJEB with newer Boeing 757s or possibly a different aircraft type, as well as expanding the fleet to four or five aircrafy by summer 2005.

Can anyone help me with Flyjet's fleet or recruitment plans?
