New Airline at CWL

I have been told by a friend of mine that there is a new airline starting in the new year at CWL by the name of 'Southwest'

Rumour has it that they are going to be 737-300.

Does anyone know anything about it???????

This has been rumoured for sometime. Apparently the people behind it are waiting until January to make the announcement about the launch.

As for the name....I think Air Southwest in PLH and the airline of a similar name in the US may have something to say about it!!!

Have heard that the fleet will comprise 2x 737-300 initially, to be joined at a later date by a 757.

Will be good news for CWL if it happens.

Is it going to be a low cost carrier or a charter carrier??

I know for a fact that they have already appointed a Cabin Crew Manager.

If it is to be a low cost the 757 with 737's is a strange choice of aircraft, so perhaps it plans on being a charter?

Going low cost now seems a funny idea considering the predicited loco 'bloodbath' this winter and bmibaby seems to have Cardiff pretty much covered with Easy running the show across the river in Bristol.

MYT are putting pax on all airlines through the winter, FCA, BY and now LTE.

Maybe there is a deal going down for the summer?

Does anyone know what routes they will have planned?Glasgow would be a good one, plenty of pax to take from Bristol area two airlines go there, rather than Prestwick.I know this wishful thinking!

AT Last!

2 x 737 will make a massive difference at Cardiff. Am sure if it is charter that they will not run quite as many sectors in the day as BMI Baby do with their 2 737s, although, it may give Baby the preverbial Kick up the A**E and get a third aircraft in there.

I wonder what Air Wales will make of this, especially with the reports of much increased pax figures this month.

Nice to see CWL actually pulling their finger out and getting something going. Lets hope the 737s and the 757 turn up sooner rather than later.

I quite like TBI (or that spanish company), but I'm biased and they are 110% focused on LTN rather than their other airports considering LTN is their jewel in the crown.

Isn't this just bmibaby rebranded as Southwest? I believe some of their management are in love with the Southwest model and are trying to copy it lock, stock and barrell. Apart from the crew motivation bit that is...

all the smart money is on that band of brothers Stavros, Zorba and Spiros who once ran another airline at CWL and flogged it to Airtours........You know who I mean......always smashing plates and drinking ouzo

I take it you mean the Asprou boys with Aspro Travel and Intereuropean Airways.

What have they been doing in the intervening years, any idea?

And before that there was CWL-based Airways International Cymru (wasn't 'Welsh Air' their radio callsign'?) of the mid 1980s with their 737s and 1-11 (more than one of these?) who did a lot for the then very sparse air services of South Wales and South West England.

So there are certainly precedents for such airlines in South Wales. There was also of course Paramount (with four MD 83s and I think one 737) at BRS that went out of business in somewhat notorious circumstances.

I await developments with much interest and hope things go well.

Having worked for MyTravel Airways out of CWL as cabin crew and as I am currently out of work, I am watching this thread with great interest and am eager to find out information on employment with this propsed new airline. Any info anyone has at the moment would be greatly recieved. Feel it would be great to see a new airline out of CWL as one is very much needed.

Yes,

I have to agree with the above post, is there anything going to be released?

I know that someone said they will be annoucing the news in January, so still some time.

However, if there are applications for jobs as mentioned in this thread already, surely there must be an online link with information..

Regards,

Chris

can someone tell me why cardiff pac stats are falling when all other UK airports are rising with resident LCC's?

Is it the onslaught of BRS? or the population demographic? or what?

Lovejet,

Pax figs could be down due to MYT pulling out for winter and as well as there usual winter dests i'm sure they used(correct me if i'm wrong) do a SFB from CWL didnt they, if so that flight would account for 1200 or so pax a month on its own, also FCA's A320 goes to EXT for the winter and only drops by to say hello on a W pattern on a Friday, I believe the EXT flights are doing very well for them and rumours of a permanent base from summer 2006 are abound, they're also the busiest charter at BRS both summer and winter so its a bit of a mystery why they feel they cant get the pax in CWL through winter.
Also has Baby not dropped some destinations for the winter?
Just a thought!
