Budget flights to link city and Manchester
A LOW-cost airline has announced plans to launch a budget route between Edinburgh and Manchester next year.
Jet2.com said it will run three flights a day between the cities, with one-way fares staring at £15.
Tickets for the flights have already gone on sale, and the new route follows the company’s recent launch of services from Manchester to Amsterdam and London Gatwick.
The airline confirmed that from February 14, 2005, it will base one of its 148-seat Boeing 737-300 aircraft in Edinburgh, creating about 50 new jobs.
It is the airline’s first flights from Scotland and Philip Meeson, head of Jet2.com, said: "Passengers are paying phenomenally high fares on some routes and airlines are being plain greedy.
"Fares on some business routes - such as Edinburgh to Manchester, for example - are just daylight robbery.
"There is a huge demand for low cost travel and we have shown through our growth at Leeds, Bradford, Belfast and Manchester that we can meet demand with supply."
The flights will depart Edinburgh at 7.45am, 2pm and 5.30pm daily.

Hi,
Do not know if 3 flights per day EDI-MAN leave any time for other destinations, but for sure, Jet2 has asked for slots at MJV to operate an EDI-MJV route: If they carry it out, they have a daily slot to operate I think from march.
Cheers

I've just looked at the Jet2 timetable and EDI-MAN is 3 daily until 26th March 2005 then drops to 2 daily with flights departing EDI at 14:00 and 17:30.
Looks like another route will be launched in due course, which fits with what javier.mjv says about Murcia slots.
Surely its only a matter of time until Jet2 launch EDI-BOH as well, especially as Thomsonfly did not launch the route today.

The timetable states that morning flights for the summer will be confirmed at a later date. I assume that they are awaiting slot allocations at EDI and MAN before announcing the times. This rather than a reduction from 3 to 2 a day.

New flights to Hamburg
THE first scheduled service from Hamburg to Scotland was set to be launched at Edinburgh Airport today.
Budget German airline Hapag-Lloyd Express (HLX) will operate the service, flying from the Capital to Hamburg three times a week, with fares starting from the "price of a taxi".
News of the route follows speculation that transatlantic flights from Edinburgh will be expanded.
American-based Continental Airlines is in talks about starting a second daily service to the Big Apple from the city. And a new service to Estonian capital Tallinn is also in the pipeline.
And yesterday Jet2.com unveiled plans to launch a budget route between Edinburgh and Manchester.
