Thomsonfly "cheapest airline to run"

According to TUI UK MD Peter Rothwell, as quoted in Friday's TTG.

He's also quoted as saying "I can't afford not to be in LTN or STN". Surely, with this hybrid, they already are?

Still not sure about the costs though - TOM's 737-500 v. FRs 737-800's, no seat backs, lower airport charges & all? Or are they accounting for use of CVT for nothing?

First B737-300 has been recently delivered to Coventry for use as a backup aircraft initially before departing for the new base at Bournemouth.

Thomsonfly seem to have a few aircraft problems recently as they have had to charter in a Titan BAe146, Hapag Lloyd B737-800 & TUI Belgium B737-400 to cover for tech B735s

Of course they are. All the admin, ops, crewing, rostering, engineering, et al, are done by TUI. It isn't difficult to manipulate figures to make one look good. Mr Rothwell is a past master at it!

Are the B737-300's definitely going to be Bournemouth based? I would have thought they would have used the 300's at Coventry or DSA and used 500's at Bournemouth.

Thomas Cook,
The passengers have WDC to thank for any problems. TUI/Coventry Airport want to move the carparks to near the terminal & then build a brand new terminal to replace the current one.

I work at Coventry Airport and speak to many of the passengers and I can only disagree with the above. Many of the passengers I have spoke to would rather fly from CVT than MAN, BHX, or STN as its small, has most facillities pax need, you can't get lost easily and you can pass through security and baggage reclaim within 5-10 mins from getting off the aircraft!

I think the figures for passengers returning to use CVT again and again show this.

I have to agree with IanJ, I know someone who works at Coventry and apparently most passengers are very happy with the airport and I believe a large % of Thomsonfly passengers @ COV are returning pax. Must be doing something right!

Another key point about CVT is that once at the terminal, everything is on one level, the only time you have to go up or down is to get into the aircraft. Probably less walking than boarding a train at Coventry station, and certainly much more friendly staff, who tell you what's going on! Much better food too!

I think CVT must have a fairly loyal army of happy passengers by now, I just wish a few more of them would write to the Leamington Courier to redress the negative balance!

I would disagree on that one. I work as a Barman at a small Hotel close to Coventry Airport (VERY CLOSE.....another Thomson just gone over ) and since Thomsonfly started flights out of their we have seen a dramatic increase in turnover/revenue. Nine months down the line I can safely say that 99.9% of the passengers who pass thro' our establishment are very happy with the set-up at Coventry, also, we are seeing many familiar faces returning to use the facilities!

I would suggest that despite the odd teething problems that TUI/Thomsonsfly may have experienced initially and sometimes now that they are doing something right

Sorry to do this again:

I know people who have flown from there and can only sing its praises. I picked a friend up the other week, watched his plane land and within 5 minutes he was in the car with me! What more can you say? Obviously not 100% of people will be happy, but if they're not then they dont have to come back. There are hundreds that will come back, I know 6 or 7 people who have already booked second or even third flights. And there are also new customers which will continue to try it out. CVT is one of the leanest most efficient airports in the country. Ok, its got size on its side!!

CVT could do with some of these happy punters penning letters of support (for the airport) to the WDC & some of the local 'rags' which give some very biased articles to the anti-airport mob.

travellers like the convenience, not the marble flooring.

if ya too posh for CVT use, BHX.... there are enough level-headed people to keep CVT booming

same goes for Bournemouth, no need for a new terminal till things get real cosy
