Ryanair passengers will not be allowed to use a bus...that will be too much of luxury, LPL can save on that

Congratulations Liverpool, but why so many daily flights to Limoges and Nimes - what is the attraction of these cities?

Well thats good news for Liverpool !!, just wish they wouldnt have duplicated so many routes already covered from the North West :-(.

Still....good news for the Norths ever expanding list of Lo-Cost carriers.

Forget busses and stands, maybee someone should look at upgrading that Cat II ILS you have.
Question from a punter or a pilot?

Quote "Question from a punter or a pilot?"

Err twas a statement not a question.

Punter or Pilot.........or neither ????

Like it or not, EZY are annoyed that they had to cancel in excess of 5 flights in one day due to LVP's, despite repeated requests to upgrade to ILS.

Ground handling is also becoming a major issue, which will only get worse with RYR and FLYBE expanding.

I always thought that RYR aimed to open 2 new bases each Autumn. Where is the 2nd one to be?

Man of Man

Not sure if you are a pilot no not but you do seem to have sour grapes re LPL.

If you carnt get in on CAT II it is unlikely you will get in on a CAT III but of course that 50 Radio might make all the difference but in my experiences - NOT.

Also, MAN was SNOCLO the other night -- LPL being by the sea rarely suffers from snow.

LPL offers very short taxy times to take off and park on stand and very little ATC faffing for arrivals. Useful for the Low-co's !

All new routes are to be welcomed. I feel it will be extremely difficult for Ryanair to sustain daily 737-800s services to both Cork and SNN. I mean, that is close to 400 seats each way between Liverpool and Cork/SNN! With the best will in the world I cannot see a long term future unless Ryanair totally strip Manchester of it's Cork and SNN bound passengers with bmi baby and BACX.

There was I looking forward to the chance of an Emerald ATP between LPL and ORK in the New Year and look what now happens today!!

The mind boggles. These are really strange times in the Low Cost business!

O Dear....Mr Jet 1.

Manchester was SNOCLO ????????.....was that the night we accepted Diversions from East Midlands that was SNOCLO????

Sour Grapes re LPL.....no and if you read my posts regarding Ryanairs expansion you would see that I aint.

I am not going to get into a LPL vs MAN thread again coz this is tedious.

If the current ILS is as good as CAT III then why have Easyjet repeatedley asked LPL to uprgrade it if it makes no diff to the current minimums required by EZY ??????

If you are going to try and defend something then I suggest you might try nest time with some correct facts !!!

Thumbs up

Jet A1

I have to pull you up here .

LPL has a CATII ILS on RWY27 . EZY RVR requirement is 300m.
based on this ILS.On the particular day in question the RVR was 250m had the ILS been capable of a CATIII landing EZY would not of had to cancel their flights as EZY are capable of 200M with the right upgraded ILS . For info 09 is even worse with CATI only available.

And I concur with Man Of Man , Manch was not SNOCLO last week.

and very little ATC faffing for arrivals.
You are discounting of course the ENORMOUS amount of "faffing" that we have to endure from Manchester ATC who just try to keep LPL traffic away and get us out of their airspace asap...... If that means maintaining FL100 20nm north of LPL and routing out to some godforsaken waypoint off the North Wales coast then so be it!

More lo-cost traffic in and out of LPL - I can just hear MAN ATC rubbing their hands with glee! (or is it just grinding their teeth in frustration!)

Liverpool John Lennon has just taken delivery of a 'proper' airport bus. Two more will follow before next summer.

Work on three new stands on the 'tango' ramp will start soon, to be completed in time for the influx of based Ryanairs.

You guys talk some tosh! The ILS equiptment per say is more than capable of being Cat III but I'm afraid to operate to Cat III limits the associated airport facilities such as lighting must cut the mustard. The lighting at LPL is what limits the approach on 27 to Cat II not the ILS. It also limits the departure RVR.

Only 3 stands usable on the Tango apron simultaneously, and don't forget the daystopping night mail freighters who utilise stands down by Whiskey. Only a handful of boarding gates to serve the a/c on stands mean a lot of delays now both boarding and disembarking as pax have to travel the same walk ways and you have to hope you don't need the only ambulift!

Good to see most of you self professed experts didn't manage to quess the new RYR destinations correctly, and i think you will find Nimes and Limoges rotations are weekly not daily.

That said some interesting times ahead and with EZY announcing financials to the City tomorrow I'm sure we can see them coming back with something interesting.

RAT 5,

Current money is on Dusseldorf Weeze, what we currently know as Neiderhein, but Murcia (Spain) is also in the frame. The current expansion philosophy seems to be 2 bases in all the countries the Ryan's operate in to consolidate their presence there.

Very interesting wild card talk is of Basel, though. The Oranges are thinking seriously of consolidating their position there, and a Ryanair base at BSL would be a coup de grace of sorts, especially given that Swiss are still losing CHF500,000 every day and the loco's seem to be moving into 'gloves off mode'. In a post Swiss world, a BSL base would be gangbusters for the Ryans, but the airport authorities (French) are unaccustomed to being foxtrotted without being kissed first....clearly not used to FR advances. Local Swiss gossip is about a major Ryanair presence there, though. Fantastic airport facilites, only the Orange folk there at present, etc.......

LJLA will have to do a LOT of work to cope with this growth.
It's a lovely new terminal building, but all that's around it isn't.
the car park's a disaster, the set down / pick up's a disorganised mess after a tragic incident last year. The long stay's just plain dangerous (blind turns, poor lighting, unprotected ped xings etc).
The new terminal experience quickly ends at the departure gate; third world bolt ons to the nice new buildind, a counter intuitive ropeway system to direct pax to the planes, no signage, a complete reliance on sometimes non existent human recourses, frequent congestion to disembark due to more than 1 arrival at a time (esp if one is domestic), an ambulift that turns up un prompted on a good day, a runway that competes with Haydock park as the roughest track in 'blight, and yes - C/L lights at 30m spacing.
Good luck to em........

Liverpool fits RYR's base ideals perfectly...

A)...Small Airport
B)...Little Logistics
C)...Very Very poor road transport access
D)...Walk across the tarmac to board in a very confused way especially if two or three, god forbid, arrive or depart at once ( hoping your not the last A/C in the row and it's not raining !! )

All in all good choice by RYR, now you can fly from airport like above to another...brilliant...thing is it'll cost more to commute to a town / city centre
