Wizz aircraft impounded?
Hi fellas,
Was at Luton airport today for spotting purposes and saw that a Wizz aircraft was parked on the biz aviation apron (not that far from the easyJet headquarters).
Does anybody know whether it has just gone tech or if it has been impounded or so?
Interestingly, a mate was due to travel from Luton to Warsaw and they had cancelled the flight and transferred him to the evening flight...

I see. But I thought that operating the low-cost model was all about short turnarounds???
Surely, parking aircraft at destinations during the day will not generate any revenues!
I like it, though, as I can now take some pictures of their aircraft.

Err..... excuse me, but becauuse an aircraft was not "parked" in its usual space, or it stayed longer than usual is one thing -you might want to know why, but to imply that it might have been "imponded" is one massive assumption to make.
To impound an aircraft, or any other type of craft, is usually a last resort by creditors, implying that the crafts owners are in are serious difficulties.
I find it absolutly amazing that anyone could make such comments as "has it been impounded" without any facts to back up the assumpt!ion !!!!

It might also be a idea to take note of the question marks that the chap put in his post, CK7407, just where did Sierra Victor insinuate that the aircraft was impounded???, he merely asked a question, what on earth is wrong with that????.

I'm with CK4707 on this.
Wizz, dodgy foreign airline.........anything out of the ordinary......must have gone bust, etc. etc..
Let's try to support the business, instead of constantly knocking.

Wizz start three new services from Liverpool shortly, but there has been no publicity, was this the case prior to the start of their Luton services, if they don't pull their finger out failure looms.

For crying aloud, someone drove a fuel truck into the wing, damaged the aircraft (4 days to repair) and next thing you hear there is all doom and gloom about the airline?
My info (reliable source) is that they have deep pockets, so lets just leave them alone to get on with the business. They do not need this kind of comment on the back of an incident that was not their fault.

Yes it was and still is i'm afraid. You get the odd b/w advert in the local rag every couple of weeks and not much else. Have seen one billboard advert in London & that's about it. Even at LTN, the last time I passed through the terminal, I only saw one small poster, about three feet square, advertising their flights. Hardly earth shattering & now competing with easy on the Budapest, Warsaw & Krakow(Katowice) routes, I'm not sure what the long term future holds for them, at least at LTN.
Having said that, I have flown with them three times ex LTN and was quite impressed.Loads about 55/60% each time I should think.

Anyway, this morning I had a look at Wizz's website, and I can make the following observations:
- They have a fleet of 6 aircraft, one of which has now gone tech. What does an airline normally do in these circumstances: charter an aircraft or cancel all flying? Does anybody know what this airline has done?
- They have been giving away a substantial number of seats - several hundreds of thousands if I count all the promotions they have done. Does the fact that they also do this for flights close to departure mean that they otherwise cannot fill their aircraft? Of course, it is great for us, consumers!
- They have announced several routes which they have never operated or have scrapped shortly after starting them (e.g. Prague, Venice, Munich, some Malmo flights). This does not make a good impression.
- They are now facing quite a lot of competition from easyJet and SkyEurope, even though the actual airports operated to are not always the same. Surely, one would expect more advertising in such cases.
Splat noted that they have deep pockets; but which investors does not eventually want to see his money back with some additional profit? BTW, does anybody know who those backers are?
I am not a financial specialist, but the above facts make me wary of their future. Winter will be very tough for them, I reckon, and eventually I am afraid that "impounded aircraft" might not be that much of a stretch...

What exactly are you then? You seem to want to cast them in a bad light - any reason in particular?
Seems a shame that a new airline has to be knocked rather than given a chance to succeed.

It is usually glaringly obvious when an aircraft has been impounded in my experience,with usually a large vehicle parked at both ends.
I think an enthusiast would know this without needing to ask.
