Board bids to get Shannon flying
20/10/2004 - 14:45:28

Shannon Development has hosted the first meeting of the high-profile international advisory board for the National Agile Logistic Hub project.

The National Agile Logistics Hub (NALH) project will explore the potential of developing Shannon Airport and its hinterland as a major international centre for air cargo and logistics.

To assist the project, Shannon Development has established an international advisory board, chaired by Dr Roger Downer, president of the University of Limerick, to advise, promote and link the project internationally.

The members of the board are: Dr Roger Downer, president of the University of Limerick (chairman); Pat Cox, former president of the European Parliament; Dr John Kasarda, professor of management at the University of North Carolina; Dora Kay, head of international marketing with the Hong Kong Airport Authority; James King, chairman of Shannon Aerospace and Harry McKillop, of the Ross Perot Group based at the World Trade Centre in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

The board will advise Shannon Development on planning and developing the National Agile Logistics Hub at Shannon; promote the project to an international audience of potential users, investors and partners; identify linkages and synergies with other international hubs; benchmark the project against best international practice and recommend actions for improving performance.

Speaking at the first meeting, the board’s chairman Dr Roger Downer, who is also a board member of Shannon Development, said: “The advisory board members have confirmed our view that Shannon has the potential to become a hub of global significance in the rapidly growing world air freight market.

“Realising this vision will require unity of purpose among a range of key players at national and regional level, many of whom are already involved in the steering group for this project.”
