The demise of Sheffield Airport?
This was reported on Yorkshire Tv News tonight, report taken from their website :-
It has been reported that Sheffield's struggling airport could be sold off for just ONE pound in a secret deal just seven years after the facility opened.
The airport is built on hundreds of acres of publicly-owned prime development land.
Under terms agreed by the former Sheffield Development Corporation in 1997 this is now due to be transferred to the airport operators for just £1.
But it is understood that already the operators in partnership with developers have submitted a planning application to the city council for the site to be turned into a business park.
If approved it would make it worth millions. Sheffield City Council is now calling for an independent inquiry.

You sound surprised about this?!
I think the long term plan was always to make money from turning the land into real estate.
The cost of building and running a small airport for 10 years was more than offset by the low price the land was obtained for.

No surprise at all !
I'm more surprised it has lasted this long!
An airport that could of done very well, great connections to the motorway just a shame the runway was so short, presume that was the idea, make it an unviable project and then reclaim the land for commercial use or am I being a tadge synical?
Scheduled operators have been few and far between, Aer Arran, Klm uk are the ones I remember.
