Aberdeen ER4
Belfast Int DH3
Edingburgh ER4
Glasgow ER4
Manchester DH3 & ER4

Yes, Unfortunately BMI have pulled the Leeds route last month with immediate effect and same too with their charters for the summer. My mole tells me that BMI Baby would have stepped in given further notice, but maybe next year the Leeds will be operated by baby.... maybe even Jet2?? Now theres one to think about!!

BLK-JER

See the notices posted on the CAA website and just wondered why the Blackpool - Jersey route has a longer season (07 May - 01 Oct) than all the other services (most 20 May - 16 Sep).

I saw the BA applications in the JEP tonight, a few services down on last summer I believe. Am I right in thinking that charters to Birmingham and Liverpool have been dropped for 2006? Still, they are scheduled routes as well, so nothing lost as such.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but apparently Eurowings will resume their seasonal DUS-charter after a break of a couple of years. Saturday flight on a BAe 146-300 starting April 15 (EW1670).

Devil Demise of Red Dragon

Just heard Air Wales may be taken over by Eastern Airways.

If so will they still keep the Air wales routes going to Jersey??

The Rennes service did seem a non starter any way.

The Cardiff route is operated on behalf of Baby so will Baby take this back or will we see a Jetstream operate the service.??

More Jetstreams in the air and a surplus of ATR42s would Aurigny be interested in the purchase of some of the aircraft ideal replacement for the one and onlt Shorts 360 and cut down on aircraft types with in the company.

I dont think Eastern's high fares would work well on this leisure orientated route. If the takeover happens I would expect bmi baby to perate the route themselves or for it just to be dropped

bmibaby website shows CWL-JER as Saturdays only for summer 06, apparently operated by baby's own aircraft (if you do a test booking for the summer 06 period there is no note that the service is operated by Air Wales as there is if you book a flight that operates during the current winter period).

bmibaby operated the 737 into Jersey on Saturdays only last year, the rest of the week's flights were operated by Air Wales. If there are only weekend flights available on the baby website then it would seem that Air Wales' and bmibaby's co-operation no longer exists, to Jersey at least. Air Wales must be flying the route in their own right for the summer on days Sat, Sun, Wed and Fri.

Interestingly, Air Wales and bmibaby will compete on Saturdays. 6G will operate 2x flights and WW 1x flight. Excellent to see a few extra rotations

Devil BMI Baby Cardiff Route

My insight into the baby mind is that BMI Baby market the Cardiff route. Due to the "Lack of traffic" (in baby's mind) they feel it is an in-operable route during the week. So Air Wales has agreed to operate it on behalf of BMI Baby. This means that BMI Baby are responable from point of sale to pax entering the terminal and Air Wales responable from passing security to arriving at the destination. Unfortunately this has left some people confuddled, but anyway.....
BMI Baby operate the route on saturdays as mentioned by J-Guy.
I can understand the airlines reasons, but it does leave the general public confused as I believe that ServiceAir handle Air Wales out of JER yet Airline Services (CI) Ltd handle BMI Baby, so there is always a variety of desk to choose from for Cardiff.
Mind you, as they say..... variety is the spice of life!!

Devil Another Bad Summer

From information received Saturday maoverments for the summer of 2006 looks like being down 15 to 20 per cent on 2005.

It looks like only two German destinations at the moment al though we had hoped if would be four.

Unless the two flight that will operate will do an internal sector before setting course for the Channel Islands.

Most of the loss is in the U.K. charter side with some of the low cost carries operating in area where there were director charters which have now been lost.

We have not heard any more at the moment of the Paris and Zurich direct service this may have some reflection on Blueislands not being in a position to launch there new web sight but do not quote.

What Jersey realy need is to turn the clock back 20 to 30 years and have the likes of Channel Airways,Intra Airways,Rousseau Aviation and British Air Ferries just to name one or two.

With a new Airport Director, who has grand ideas to bring back the good old days, we will have to sit back and wait but it could well be a very long one.

Angel Aurigny Shed to go???

Heard on the bush phone the Shorts will be going shortly.

If this is correct what will happen with the mail contract??

Or is the mail contract up for renewal and a larger aircraft is required I.E. an ATR of some discreption??

I understand for some time the Shorts could not carry the load as required by the Mail people.

With say an ATR42 operating the route the payload must increase by something like a ton and half or so.

If this was to happen it would fit into the rest of the ATR fleet.

Devil Bad News

Air Wales staff given one months notice so rumour has it.

If information is correct another route lost for Jersey unless people like Aurigny or Flybe may take it on.

This might be an oppertunity for Aurigny to take it on with the Shed until the aircraft is disposed of and then bring in the ATR fleet to operate.??

This could fit into some of the future plans may be???

Lots of ATR pilots would be on the market.

Devil The Dragon has a Cold!!

Sad to hear about the almost definate loss of the presence of Air Wales in JER. I know several student friends that are studying down in Cardiff and that will have a large impact on them. With it being limited to Saturdays with bmiBaby, I am unsure what these students will do. Possibly a trip across the river to BRS might have to be an option.

Angel Stansted

Nice write up in the Jersey Evening Paper on the background into the new Stansted service to be operated by Atantic Express.

Hope it is a great success as when Air UK operated the service it took a nuber of years and i believe was doing well until the plus was pulled by KLM??

Then Aurigny Air Services operated the route with the Saab, the flight deck crew were Guernsey based so the operating cost was higher than having the hole route crewed by Jersey based crews.

All the best for this new venture

Braathens and or Transwede

Heard on the pidgeon post that one or both airlines may return can any one confirm this??.

With all the new hotels being built you would hope there must be some interesting outside interest in the Island

Cannot comment on any Scandinavian flights, but I too did enjoy the JEP write up on Atlantic Express. The article presented a considerable amount of background information that can only help publicise and establish the new airline with islanders. I am confident about the success of the route and would hope that Atlantic Express brings some stability to a vital London connection. The website booking system is launched soon and it was noted that the airline is currently receiving around 30 phone-bookings a day without marketing, so best of luck to them

Cool Blueislands Operations

With blueislands Jetstream operations getting a lot closer to getting into the air could Jersey see some lost route returning??

With the new management taking up post it could be interesting to see what they have to make of the lost routes.

Some of the routes that Jersey would like to have back (my views).

Charles Du Gaulle.
Leeds.
Cardiff.
Zurich.
Brussels.

This is to name but a few.

We have heard Atlantic Express may take on the Zurich route but there may be some time after the Stansted operation starts.

Angel Local Paper New Director

In the local paper for Friday there was an article on the new Airport Director.

When he gets his feet well under the table he will be working closely with the airlines to attract new routes or get old ones back.

When we look back over twenty or thirty years and see what has been lost one need to understand why.

The chances of returning to the seventies traffic levels are just a dream, we will have to see what happen in the next two to three years.

There are a number of reasons why the traffic have declined so where his brief has come from remains to be seen the Island has only a small catchment area (population of approx 90,000 people) and it is after all an Island 9 miles by 5 milles give or take an inch or two.

So where these ideas are comming from who knows.

We can only whish any new recruit well but watch this space.

Just a bit of news for the summer season; the usual VLM Rotterdam Saturday service begins on 29 April but there is an extra flight from 13 May. Flight times are;

Rotterdam-Jersey 09:55
Rotterdam-Jersey 10:10

Jersey-Rotterdam 16:00
Jersey-Rotterdam 17:30

Three VLM aircraft will be operating the UK charters, one more than last year. Considering that there is an extra aircraft down from Amsterdam on Saturdays, it looks like quite a busy summer schedule for VLM down in Jersey
