Transatlantic MAN
Just read a thread on Airliners.net about BMI's transatlantic success. A mixed opinion but I should think they are successful. Does anyone know any more?
What about the other transatlantic carriers from MAN. I know US do very well on PHL, as CO do with EWR. But the others?
Cheers

Check the CAA website which will show the passengers numbers for each month.
In Aug the following are the scheduled flight passenger numbers.
ATL 11282
BOS 10567
ORD 24573
JFK 12049
EWR 15825
MCO 20068
PHL 8437
SFO 6091
IAD 10330
Toronto 21137
Vancouver 6425
The PHL/SFO are the single daily US flight that routes MAN-PHL-SFO

All the figures are direct and are in/out .
So an example being that American Airlines exclusivly serve BOS
daily with a B752 / 178y ,that's 11036 seats avail for Aug ,and they filled 10565 , not bad at all , infact according to the Station Manager the flight was in profit after 5 weeks of operating

So why it being replaced with a Miami 767 at the end of the month?

RE AA 757 Boston
Because the AA 757 was already committed to another service for the Winter, they could not operate year round service, although had AA known how popular this route was going to be no doubt they would have pencilled it in all year around...!
Possibly one for next year ?
( hard luck Northwest, missed out big style !)

So those figures are all good, right?
I hear MAN's problem is premium traffic? That is why all traffic is feeding hub and not point to point?
Still I think there's huge potential for growth. I think public awareness about MAN is limited and people immediately think of London as there international gateway. Marketing get busy!!

My calculation makes IAD only 68%, hardly inspiring for August!
Perhaps this explains why BMI are thinking about LHR to India.
The others seem good though.
No doubt AA will be considering the 767 for BOS in future.

An interesting point - does anybody have any details?
From my own point-of-view, I got upgraded a couple of times on the old Cathay flight from Man to Hong Kong. On both occasions the business class cabin was virtually deserted on the MAN sector (It was full, but almost everybody got on/off at Amsterdam).
Similarly, a colleague flew J-class on the Singapore Airlines flight last year, and he said there was only him and 1 other person in the cabin.
Last year, I flew on the AA54 from Chicago to MAN in business, and the cabin was full - being a 767, there weren't a huge number of business-class seats - about 30 from memory - but all were occupied.
And in 2002 my parents flew on Emirates from MAN in business - and that cabin was full on both outbound and inbound legs.
Anyone else have any thoughts to share on this?

I think actions speak louder than words. The continued clamour for long-haul operators to get into LHR (including bmi who now have the best part of 4 years experience selling long-haul seats ex-MAN) shows where the money is.

Manchester Exile,
Travelled Emirates J-Class MAN-DXB not long ago and it was full, on the way back had to go through LHR because MAN flight full. Relative tried BMI MAN-IAD early September(ish), had to change dates by five days because flights full.
"That is why all traffic is feeding hub and not point to point?"...Might want to look into that a little bit more semisonic.
Going Loco, If BMI got LHR routes, they would be additional not instead of MAN...i think it's normal for airlines to want to operate anywhere they can make a profit, although i would suggest they keep the blinds down until after departure at LHR so no-one has to look at the place

Scottie,
It was any ecomomy fare, The rate at the time was about £550 (with a confirmed return date), but no availability for the preferred outbound date or the next four days after. Not sure if J wax full, hope so, supposed to good on BMI L/H.
