Another airline for Liverpool

Staff at Liverpool Airport tell me there is to be an announcement on Monday that another operator is to set up a base at LJL.

I understand it is an established carrier and not a new 'paper' carrier.

I look forward to hearing the details.

Oh my god surely someone is not going to try and break the EZY stranglehold on LPL. I cant wait to see who it is hope they do well.

FR have a growing presence, but would they want a base there (and don't they have their own announcements to make elsewhere next week). Baby already strong in MAN, EMA etc - surely LPL would be saturation. Wouldn't Jet 2 also be spreading themselves thin? Thomsonfly seem to prefer airports with no rivals. Lite are more into converting from charter flights. None of the continental European airlines have dared set up bases in the UK yet. Flybe have always talked about wanting a north of England base, and could operate plenty of niche routes from LPL with a Q400. Am I any warmer, or way off the mark?

Hasn't it long been rumoured that Flybe were looking to establish a new base in the North West......or was that the North East?

We do know that Flybe have said that they plan to announce new routes out of Newcastle in time for next summer. They said this when they announced the new Exeter and Southampton - Newcastle routes, which commence later this month.

My reference to FR was because they were holding a press conference in LTN a few hours later, so were unlikely to be launching routes from LPL at the same time.

No major new announcements as such, more a general update & receipt of the new 800th 737-800 & starting the Dinard route.
