I am writing from Krakow. The company that I own is based in Krakow.
Katowice is about 40 mins from Krakow.I am not sure why Wizzair are flying from Katowice when the main airport for the area is Krakow which is Poland 2nd city and the original capital.
I assume it must be on cost basis as LOT seem to control Krakow Balice. Direct flights to the USA take place from Balice.
So to answer the question.
Krakow is a beautiful city and a big tourist attaction. The main market square is the 2nd biggest in Europe after Venice.
The city is completely in tact as it was not bombed during the war.
There are hundreds of restaurants which have a high standard.
Summers have long sunny days with temps around 25-28 deg.
Winters are quite cold usually around minus 12.
I can absolutely recommend it.
Katowice is more of an industrial city.
Hope this helps.
I only wish Jet2 would add this to their destinations so I can travel frequently back to Leeds.
I have to fly to Warsaw which which usuallly means an overnight on the KRK-WAW-AMS-LBA trip 12 to 20 times per year.

Easyjet's response...?
.....so what is Easyjet's response going to be to this HUGE expansion and even some direct competition at LPL where they have traditionally had around 80 - 90% of the market and the business...?
I somehow doubt that Easyjet will take this lying down....! Particularly with Jet2 starting up at MAN too...
This is clearly great news for Liverpool and the Northwest - my only concern based on prior dealings with LPL airport a while back is whether or not they are ready for this major expansion - sure the new(ish) terminal looks very nice, but the facilities beyond this - and attitudes to sorting them out - were certainly a notable problem.

The terminal is currently has planning restriction of 4.5million pax per annum placed on it.
The airport has TWO further planning proposals getting its attention.
One - to take the passenger throughput ceiling to 6million pax per annum.
Two - to build another terminal building further west than the current terminal.
