The latest additions to the Jet2 fleet have just been registered. They are the 2 B757 aircraft which are rumoured to be used for the Tenerife flights starting October 2005.
They have been registered as G-LSAA c/n 24122 and G-LSAB
c/n 24136. Does anyone know if both will be LBA based or split between LBA-MAN?

Cool

Latest rumour is that yes both destin for LBA, one doing AGP, and TFS to start with and the other one as a spare for a short time. Expect other destinations to be released towards end of the summer.

It also looks like two may not be enough for his big plans!

Watch this space.

If any one is flying out shortly make sure you take a deck chair or two- the seating has been temporarily taken away downstairs with only a few seats remaining! This is to make room for the new developments in progress, with the mezzanine level, hero pub and Whs. What a great time for it to happen, cant wait for a delay and it'll be us gettin the stick for the shambles!

ash

oh yeah and no smoking in departures, only permitted in WHSmith storeroom, 3 at a time! hahaha

Knock-on aircraft delays and crew rest hours problems all arising from a weather diversion from LBA to MAN when the aircraft was landing back on Saturday morning from the overnight Tenerife service. Delay reduced this morning, should be back on track by Tuesday morning.

Anything new??

Well haven't seen anything new on here for a while, the lull before the storm maybe?

Significant NEWSFLASH for LBA airport workers!!

The long awaited arrival of the GR**GS family bakery, the store is to open its doors next Saturday morning. The prices of all on offer WILL BE at 'high street' prices.

No more getting ripped off by the other tripe on offer.

Good news about the Gr.g*s thing (which I believe is the only company owned airport outlet in the country - the rest are all franchises), but one or two things are also mooted on the LBA front, so things are not dead yet.

Jet2's routes of "importance" that they are investigating ex LBA are TXL oder SXF, CIA and MXP.

The airport are in heavy talks with VLM for an LCY, but VLM have said that NCL-LCY is a priority but LBA-LCY is still a strong possibility in the mid term. VLM believe that BMIr got it all wrong with their fare structure and they can make a lot of money on that route with their loco back end/high yield front end fare structure.

Aer Arann Knock seems hopeful from SO6 also.

Having failed to make BGY work, in common with the rest of the UK loco industry, would MXP really work? And if you look at the shambolic loads on AB's MAN services, I cant seem them jumping into the German market either. With 2 B757s for W05/6, i would have thought finding routes for these ships would be of greatest importance?

VLM should have been on the LCY from the start. Only bmi will know why the took it on in the first place or why they contrived to make such a hash of it.

Prospect of a 40p Vanilla Slice the next time I'm up sounds good!

Hmm, some interesting ones there, I think that VLM on the LCY route would be a much bigger success than bmi, they have good presence down south, and should operate better frequencies, ala MAN and LPL. Aer Arann to Knock would also be great, would also like to see Shannon.

I think Jet2 to MXP would be a bit of a non starter, CIA should do very well, and I think they would make huge bucks on any German service, LBA doesn't currently have any.

Im looking forward to my 60P Corned Beef Pasty next time im up

Has BMI dropped all aspirations for Copenhagen?

Jet2 must be interested in Copenhagen on the lo-cost principle of shipping British folk to beautiful, historical and cultured cities of Europe where they can have their stag/hen nights and/or generally get ratted.

In a different life I worked for Greggs (Bramley, West Leeds) and made vanilla slices, corn beef squares, bloomers etc. Not a bad old place - hope the shop goes well.

LBA, I don't follow your logic that just because LBA doesn't have any German services, anything introduced should do well. If you introduced a twice-daily service from LBA to Oberpfaffenhofen, it wouldn't automatically be a winner just because it is the only LBA-Germany service. Equally, as a previous respondent has said, Air Berlin's services from Manchester aren't exactly setting the world on fire and pax numbers on routes from LBA are typically only 20% of those from Manchester.

I know mate, what I mean is that there is absolutely no competition for any airline that starts Germany service, if Jet2 start a service to Berlin or Cologne or whereever, I would trust them fully, come on, not many of there routes have been a failure from LBA (Bergamos about it).

When I talk to people at LBA, I often here Germany mentioned as somewhere they would like to fly from, I know thats not a great survey of people, but I feel with Jet2 s usual superb marketing and good prices, Berlin or wherever could be a great success.

I think the AB services from MAN suffer from poor timings and poor frequencies.

German route??

Like LBA I do think any German route would do well from Leeds, I do understand that there is more to it than just saying because Leeds has no service, any would work but take a look at Manchesters Jet2 Gatwick service. The Gatwick service is not thought to be doing exactly brilliant, but bare in mind that they're over 8 flights a day from MAN to LGW (sorry i'm too lazy to find the actual figure ) It has widely been said that the service would probably be a success from Leeds because there is no competition at Leeds.

Does anyone know the actual number of flights per day to the previously mentioned destinations from MAN?

Didn't good old Capital Airlines have a service to Dusseldorf with a venerable Gulfstream that ran for some time before the whole show ground to a halt?

The risk with German destinations is there isn't much of a market for leisure travel with the exception of Berlin. the folk who flock to Prague and Amsterdam should also find Berlin worth a visit.

Nope, it was Frankfurt. Started off with the Cessna Titan operating a daily Oslo, and then branched out into the Gulf One operating a daily Frankfurt and a daily Oslo. I think they also had a spell of running via Humberside once upon a time.

Only LBA-DUS service was back in the BKS Viscount days, I think. There used to be a Copenhagen in the mid 1980s, with Air UK operating the UK660/661 LBA-Newcastle-Copenhagen on an F27.

Leeds - Lahore

Noticed that the LBA marketing have finally put out a press release regarding the start of the Lahore service on 18th June 05.
Initial flights by Swefly RJ70 connecting with the 767 in Sweden.
Should do very well.

The LBA website is confirming that Swefly will commence booking flights to Lahore from the 18th June.Intended aircraft will be a Avro RJ70 to Stockholm and then Boeing 767200ER to Lahore. It has been talked about for months and now it is about to begin.
Lets hope it will be a success and maybe a similar operation to India next. There are enough potential passengers in the Leeds/Bradford and the West Riding catchment area.It will be 3 flights a week Mon,Thurs and Sat.
