100m pound plan for rail link
From the Yorkshire Post
100m pound plan for rail link to airport
PLANS for a new rail link to Leeds Bradford Airport to run from Guiseley to Horsforth are to be included in a regional transport strategy.
The proposed link, which would run to the north of the airport, would also connect the Leeds-Harrogate line to the Airedale line.
Transport adviser to the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly Michael Padgett said the plans were still at draft stage and would be released for consultation later this year.
A government-appointed board would consider next year if the rail link was worth the huge expence, likely to be more than 100m. If they decided it was worthwhile, the rail link would be included as a priority in the regional spatial strategy.
Mr Padgett said: "Long term, a rail link is the most desirabe way of accessing the airport, but the rail authority is focussing its priorities on refurbishing new track."
"You would need huge numbers of people using a new track to make it pay."
Spokesman for Leeds Bradford Airport Rob Lund said that a rail link was unlikely to be built for at least ten years. Plans site the new station to the north of the main terminal, on low ground. The new line could link in with a park-and-ride, improving access to Leeds and Bradford from the North.
END.
Also on the transport link front, a new bus service is to be added from the 28th April, linking the airport with Harrogate.

Pakistan Service being studied!
Hi, this would be my first post.
My name is Graham, i attend a craven college course at LBA on wednesday evenings. and have learned a few things.
The airport has been looking at a pakistan service, this has been rhumored for a while now yes,
The airport has come to the conclusion that a fully laiden 767-200 could go from LBA to Lahore, this is not a definate service to happen however, but! one travel agent in bradford has offered CASH for all the seats available to Pakistan for a whole year!
so looks quite promising.

Welcome perky35
Yes, this isn't new and I know the man you've been talking to very well. He was working with Planetair to start a new service to Pakistan Lahore airport. I think it will only be a matter of time before such service starts up from LBA.
Cheers

Re Astreaus: it looks like it will be a 737 of some kind based, but is still not confirmed if it is a 300/700, in house/leased, decision still pending according to my discussion with them today.
Whilst on the subject, I notice MyTravel still haven't put the Fri night TFS on sale ex LBA. Is it still going to happen?
On the downside, I understand the Pisa has been axed, and the Verona downgraded to a Euromanx RJ70 ?

New JET 2 Route from Leeds + Extra AMS flight
New route starting September 2005 from LBA is the long awaited and heavily rumoured Tenerife.
The flight will operate initially 3 times a week, on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Also the Amsterdam will rise from 2 times daily on Mondays to Fridays to 3 times daily.
Some good positive news from Jet 2 for LBA at last after all their
recent start ups from Manchester.

Great news if true. TFS I'm sure would be a winner. How will LS operate this route considering that some people have mentioned that their current 733's may struggle to operate this route non-stop from LBA? A leased aircraft initially to see how it performs? Or will they risk it with their exsiting 733's?

Dont know.... Maybe they will get a 733 with uprated engines?
If AEU as rumoured operate a 733 from LBA this summer, then that will have to fly to the likes of TFS,LPA,LCA etc, so it must be possible.

Re Jet2.com new services
Spoke to the 'man-in-the-know' yesterday, given the tone of what he was saying I would expect possible a couple of new destinations. There are to be destinations announced shortly was the word. He could not comment any further to protect this knowledge from getting to his competitiors, which I can understand.
It is my belief that Jet 2 will operate to Tenerife and will increase flights to Amsterdam but I think that we will possibly, or rather probably see another destinaltion as well, which I for one would hope for a German route perhaps to Berlin.
It is my opinion that the main problem Jet2 has now is that it wants to expand much quicker from LBA. The airlines are finding the airport authority is becoming a stumbling block to their growth
Come on LBA, get a move on, you need to invest today for tomorrows growth. Where are the parking stands and where are all the passengers supposed to be security screened and where are all the gates?????

Very interesting
I gather that MAN - LGW is soon to be chopped, due load factor/yield lots of buyers at £15.00 but not many at the fee's to make a return, still nothing ventured nothing gained, still rumours doing the rounds about LBA-GLA & EDI.
New departure displays showing just Jet2 looks well, perhaps it should be renamed "the Philip Messon Leeds Bradford International Airport"
Well done Jet2
Cheers
Burt

"Saturdays tp Tenerife? Surely Fridays would be better?"
Sorry my mistake, the JET2 flights to Tenerife from Leeds are Tue. Fri and Sunday. All major changeover days. Was thinking about something else when I typed it!.

AEU @ LBA
Thanks for that LBA. Do you know why there's such a big gap between the o/b and i/b flights on Mon, Tues and Thurs? Is the aircaft operating a W pattern from other UK airports?
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
