Liverpool - New York

Reading snippets from another website BB, suggests that Continental Airlines could start a Liverpool - New York service in 2005.

Same again...

I've read that CO are to start transatlantic ops to Bristol, Newcastle, Luton, Stansted, Belfast, and now Liverpool.

Yes, they operate 757s so have fewer seats to fill, and can operate from smaller airports.

And I guess their development people are hyper-active in looking for the next dollar.

But just don't hold your breath. (I'm booked on LTN-NYC when it starts, just haven't been able to book it yet).

Where did you read this? Do you know when these start ups will happen? I mailed Continental regarding this last week and have received no reply yet

Cheers

Kev

Sorry, my posting was tongue in cheek.

What I meant was that I've heard so many rumours about CO that I'm only prepared to believe new services when they are announced by CO themselves.

Mouser

I have seen that message on the BB.

For those who have not read the message here is some extracts given in reply to a email sent to Continental re a Liverpool/New York service.

"Thank you so much for your interest in our Liverpool service.....I too had heard that this was going to begin in 2005.....I know we are expecting exciting results from this route

I'll believe LPL when I see it. Surely NCL (much wider catchment area), BFS (DUB being nearest alternative), and BRS (doesn't have MAN just up the road) would all be priorities before Merseyside?

I'd certainly back a BFS flight, plenty of traffic connecting through MAN/LHR to America.Like mentioned Liverpool with Manchester just down the road doesn't seem a viable proposal......though I'm not one of their number crunchers so we can but wait and see..

Manston - Melbourne!!

Have read in the local papaer over here that American is planning to operate a service from Manston to Melbourne, Florida! Apparently this is as an alternative to Sanford.

Can't really see why that many Floridians would want to visit NE Kent, or how it could be a substitute Sanford when it is about an hours drive further from Orlando??

Is this possible?

Ask any New Yorker to name cities in the UK, 1st London , 2nd Liverpool , why the,ve never heard of Newcastle, Bristol, and Manchester is a destination on the departure board, give the Americans the chance to fly into Liverpool JOHN LENNON Airport, and they,d be under the JOHN LENNON/ ABOVE US ONLY SKY along with our friends from Japan camera's out. oh by the way Liverpool is twined with New York.

The Manston - Melbourne (Fla) route could just be a runner. I believe that both airports are operated by the same company (Planestation).

I actually e-mailed Continental Airlines a few months ago with regard to a Newcastle flight as it caused a bit of disruption on keypub. They said that they were concentrating on Stansted and Bristol and then Newcastle.

..well a colleague of mine recently flew business class Newark - Manchester and was told that a second service into Man was imminent....

so take your choice..!

The Manchester flight is always full so a second service poss' appears more likley than a speculative assault elsewhere.

Just received a reply from Continental to my email re the rumoured Liverpool/New York service.

Here is part of the reply,
.....we do not have a definite date as of yet, but I would urge you to watch our website at; continental.com for the official announcement. I believe it will be sometime around the first of the year.

Thank you for your interest. We look forward to welcoming you aboard soon!

Sounds hopeful.

A friend of a friend who works for Liverpool City Council has reported that this announcement of the New York service is to be trumpeted as a major coup over Manchester and an integral part of the 2008 Capital of Culture build up. YYYYAAAAWWWWNNN!!!!

Service said to be MON. WED, FRI and a 757 equipment used. No business class all economy config, start date 30/04/2004.

A wee bit late, isn't it?

Continental serve both Glasgow and Edinburgh, so you never know. But a "major coup over Manchester"? You're 'aving a larf, innit?

If the service is meant to be Mon, Wed, Fri, it can't start on 30/04/05 as that is a Saturday
