Eddington to leave BA

According to the Sunday Telegraph, Rod Eddington is planning to leave BA at the end of next year. Is there an heir apparent or will this be another opportunity for one of Tony's Cronies?

I believe that Rod and Mike Street are on 'rolling two-year' contracts, so perhaps a formal note might be expected if either were to leave?

My money is on Willie Walsh if he doesn't succeed with the MBO at EI.

Ansett collapsed around 12 months after Rod resigned and then I think he went onto the Qantas board. Maybe he'll go back again.

If Willie wants to do fleet standardisation and aggressive weeding of fripperies (remember EI's paintings at HQ?) at BA to save money and reduce fares, he's welcome.

If he's going to introduce EI style cabin service at BA - NO THANKS! If that happens I'll have to start sending begging letters to the Bearded Wonder to restart LHR-YYZ...

Also, a Willie regime would be even less good news for regional BA users than things currently stand, since Aer Lingus has given up on markets outside of DUB and a token amount in ORK.

Will the destination of the 2012 Olympics have been decided by the time that Rod Eddington leaves?

And will someone currently involved with the London bid be free by then?

I'm a bit puzzled as to the Tony's cronies ref. I must say... don't remember BA being a Labour fiefdom.

There are circles within circles at the upper echelons of British Industry. It is inconceivable that anyone appointed to head BA would not have the discrete blessing of the Establishment.

Pirate -

Your location 'lgw' must be in cloud cuckoo land!!

If you really think that the non-exec directors of a company phone up no. 10 to check that their appointment will be OK with Cherie, you've spent too much time in sub-Saharan Africa.

What matters is how a candidate is viewed by City Investors, and that means Bankers, Analysts, Fund Managers and the like. And that little group is not 'the establishment'. These people are extremely hard-headed businessmen, utterly ruthless and consumed by their own need for financial success.

If you had worked in corporate finance, you would know what I mean.

I may be incorrect, but I never resort to bad language. You demean yourself.
