A few months ago they said that they were negotiating the lease of two 744s from SQ but that's gone quiet recently and I'm not sure that SQ themselves have two surplus aircraft following the lease of two to Ar Atlanta/Iberia.

Well be it 744 or 742 I believe that Mr Paul Stoddart is involved in some capacity. At this point I will say no more as I do wish to be seenas a bitter person

Think the 744 idea went ages ago. Saw on an Australian Travel site that they signed a deal with European to operate the routes. this was a couple of months ago, I'll try and find the link, sure there was a thread here bout it...

Edit: Found the link to the article :http://www.travelbiz.com.au/articles/fb/0c020efb.asp

Also, do a search in Pprune there are loads of topics about backpackers

my very reliable spies at Manchester Airport plc say they don't envisage it coming off at all, and are looking at Antipodean Air Charter as the only possible Australian connection from Manchester this winter....
