No, not the golden mile, but the airport
Have heard a rumour that it has been bought by a company called "City Hopper Airports", and they have "big plans" for it. (Don't they all?)
Is this anything to do with KLM, and what are the plans?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Yes indeed they have...
MD has already been made an offer he could refuse and has gone, quite right after the Comed fiasco.
There is a five year plan which depending on who you believe will involve demolishing the nearby town of Kirkham (10 miles away) to make room for the fantastically extended runway!!!!
Typical new owner talk, no doubt we will see what happens, its about time the airport had some money invested. It has a neighbourly freindly over sea approach that could be well utilised for Night freight etc....

Yes it is the Wolverhampton crowd , just hope they give the
based companies some consideration when they start to
redevelop the airport.
However in order to get rid of the massive annual operating debt
they need to get some passengers through the facility pronto.
Lets hope it's not all to the detriment of the GA and Business
users ...who make up the majority of the movements and kept this airport alive pre low cost airline arrival !!

You've just made an old man very happy
If it is indeed true that the former MD, former FD, of Blackpool Airport is no longer with the company - then I am for one am pleased.
I applied for the job when his predecessor went to Farnboro' and when I heard it had gone internally I was tempted to reach for the Ombudsmans address.
It clearly demonstrates that bean counters cannot ever run airports.
Things can only get better

As Sir George says "bean counters cannot ever run airports", I thoroughly agree. Its a shame that bean counters still run airlines aswell. But if EGNH turns around and gets more flights and pays better salaries to the staff then, well what can I say. What we need in the aviation business is qualified aviation personnel with good business/sales professionals running the business, who can be advised by the accountants on financial issues.
For example, let's look at council run airports. Firstly, who are the councillors, my mum who has never run a business, local shop keeper, young newly graduated student who is ambitious, retired doctor,(basically anybody). What I'm trying to say that governing body have no experience of running an airport. Secondly, this means that if the bean counters present profitable accounts to the council then they don't know any different. Therefore this rules the council out of any input as they don't understand. This then leaves the airport management to run the airport as they desire. As long as there are profits then all OK. The annual accounts do not realisticly show shortage of staff, overtime to cover shortages, low staff morale, lack of past/present/future sales, u/s equipment due lack of money, these are a few examples. What I'm trying to say that it is easy for the bean counters to pull the wool over the councils eyes and say what a fine job they are doing. When the truth is they are only trying to look good and protect their jobs.
Finally, in business if you continually to show profits by taking it out on the staff (which most aviation businesses do), then soon your staff will leave and there will be no business, (look at Aviance).
Good discussion.

Aah Blackpool !
Fond memories of two footex's ex Squires Gate in the early 70's one using an African Safari Airways Britannia to Verona,
The following year another whispering giant this time to CIA, Rome courtesy of the fledgling Monarch Airlines.
Incidently the take-off from CIA was interesting,- stopped half way along the taxi-way to redistribute the passengers to the very few empty seats in the back and then managed V1 twice. The first time the nose came down with a thump (accompanied by a scream from a stewardess) then up and away, not sure if we took the barbed wire and wire mesh perimiter fence with us !
The flight though, threading our way through the Alps, is something that I will never ever forget. What a priveledge.

As I understand it a runway extension is on the cards, but that was part of Ryaniar's contract requirements anyway.
The terminal needs some internal redesign to increase potential capacity and passenger flows, though I don't expect to see any extension work in the immediate future.
