US carriers eye up wales/SW
Just heard on the grape vine that Continental and US Airways have been in talks with Cardiff International Airport and Bristol International about routes to New York Newark airport.
By the looks of it Cardiff should get these routes as their runway is long enough to cope with trans-atlantic traffic (allready has a weekly flight to YYZ and soon to have two SFB services) where as Bristol will need to extend their runway a fair bit to be in the running.

This is not new 'news'.
The above link to an old PPRuNe thread will tell you more about this possibility.
Bristol would not extend its runway for one destination (far too political locally) and the airport says it would not need to for Newark.
If it is to be either BRS or CWL (I stress 'if', because it might be neither) it will undoubtedly come down to commercial considerations on the respective routes.
