Seems a shame that some of the locos havn't realised bournmouths potential. There is a serious amount of wealth in that area and the airport has a large area around it to expand into. Lovely setup as well to handle various types. Hope this changes soon.

Yep i would agree all gone very quiet at BOH
Brand new check in area , lounges and bars etc all vastly under used ( see on virtual tour at Bournemouthairport.co.uk )
There has been various airlines suggested but still nothing , Ryanair continue with 3 services a day but still dont seem to be commiting much more than this
Jet 2 would seem an obvious choice but they to seem reluctant to commit to anything
Southampton seems to be bursting at peak times with FLYBE routes doing very well and now Air Berlin starting to operate from winter . Exeter also is proving to be very succesfull with new routes starting in Oct with FLYBE
No one seems to be prepared to give BOH a chance , the pax and route potential is there only had to look at forward bookings for Buzz routes from BOH
Still charter flights and one off charters are still doing well with the first BA charter to JFK in July operated by 777 and flights to Las Vegas , Barbados and New York all operating this year

With FLYBE now established at SOU and Ryanair expanding (albeit cautiously) at BOH the market for a new operator at BOH must be risky at best. SOU is too close and has much better public transport links than BOH including a mainline railway station a stones throw from the terminal, M27 next to the airport boundary and good bus links also. BOH has none of these and can only compete with long haul flights due to its longer runway. Let's face it, there are no flies on Ryanair and if it was such a golden opportunity they would have moved in in force long ago or exploited the takeover of Buzz. Instead they are building very slowly which seems to be working for them.
Jet 2 are still a possibility but would probably like to start in a similar way to their BFS operation (cargo at night, pax by day). That would be a sensible start-up scenario with minimum risk.

Surely a loco BOH - MME is worth considering? FRA have bases at both airports and MME have no south coast destinations. The EAX routes NCL - SOU and LBA - SOU seem to do OK so why not a J41 BOH - MME twice a day? Just a thought.

Thomson will be operating 2 charters next summer to Palma and Corfu. This marks a return for the operator to BOH after pulling out after the summer 2000 season.
Progress at BOH maybe slow but passenger numbers are on the up since the MAG group took over.
2001 = 266,000
2002 = 394,000
2003 = 464,000
2004 = 520,000 + projected figure
