Ryanair's supposedly low fares
Just trying to book a flt to berlin ( SXF ) on the 12th July. Looked up FR and there i was quoted 14.99 on the out bound, and £99.99 on the return ( same day). Easy were 16.99 outward and 27.99 inward.
Thought FR were cheap? May be they should take the '50% cheaper than easyjet' slogan off their web site

As far as I know the closer you are to being the first person on the plane the cheaper the ticket - your return flight may already be quite full.

Quite clearly you have carried out a lot of research and can unequivocally state that Ryanair are not 50% cheaper than Easyjet. Or maybe you just looked at one flight on one day where Ryanair were more expensive.
Do you think if it wasn't true Easyjet would allow them to say it?

Wow - there was one day where Ryanair were dearer than Easy??? Shock horror? New to this world are we? This has happened several thousand times before and will happen several thousand times again.....

Actually the dearer fare on FR is the return sector on the outbound 14.99 flight- staying in Berlin for the day and taking the evening FR (rather than 25 minutes apparantly preferred by Jettesen) would have been cheaper than EZ.

Cheap fares.
I wonder why the major carriers do not make a big noise about some of their low fares.
I have just flown LBA-AMS-WAW, KLM,almost a 2hour flight from Ams, £70 + tax return,and I got an uprade on the return.
These fares seem to show up frequently.Barcelona and Madrid £78 LBA/AMS return for example.

I recently priced a Glasgow to London weekend visit.
By far the cheapest option was Ryanair - Prestwick to Stansted. But of course that leaves you with a Stansted Express trip into town, and Prestwick is very convenient for some, less convenient for others (like any airport).
Next cheapest, but a fair bit more expensive, was Easyjet - Glasgow to Luton. Again the drawback was the Luton to central London trip.
Next up was BA - Glasgow to Heathrow. For a whole £4 more than Easyjet! (Approx £88) But to a more central airport.
The BMI Glasgow to Heathrow flight was much more expensive.
So, it pays to explore all the options!
It strikes me that Easyjet has more to lose than Ryanair in the predicted competition 'bloodbath', since Easyjet is getting squeezed from both sides - as they compete on many main airport routes and therefore are going head to head with the older flag carriers, whereas Ryanair operating to secondary airports tend to have less direct competition.
I'd imagine Ryanair will tend to pick up the truly price sensitive customers, whereas the 'suits' might look at the options I found and consider £4 extra for a Heathrow flight money well spent.

On the website www.spotfare.com, there is a more comprehensive comparison of fares and routes. It is not a commercial website, so I hope the moderators don't mind me referring to it - it's just that this "Well, I looked at these two flights on this day and found that such and such was the case" seems such a pointless thing to do if you are really trying to compare airline fares.
You also have to bear in mind that there is a difference in what you get from a low-cost (not low-fare) and a full product airline.

Under Dusseldorf it says:
DUS Dusseldorf Rhein Ruhr
MGL Dusseldorf Moenchengladbach
NRN Dusseldorf Niederrhein
The whys and wherefores I do not know - but offically it is branded as a Dusseldorf airport.
Seems to me that for an average sized provincial city Dusseldorf has more than its share of airports.
