the war is over re: Coventry Airport
If you really think that, you're kidding yourself...the nimbies have quite a few tricks up their sleeves yet.

Twostroke,

You keep deluding yourself that CEACA are anything but a spent force if it helps you. But you will have to come to terms that it is over, TUi are here to stay and whatever "tricks" CEACA have, they will be shown to be either untruths, or will fail dramatically, at a huge cost to WDC tax payers.
The tide has truned against CEACA due to the costs they have forced upon the majority of WDC tax payers for a small minority. When it hits the pocket of the ordinary resident, it hits CEACA.
I notice that CEACA` who were bragging about having a war chest of £8,000 have failed to offer that money towards the cost of the High Court action. Let the Warwick residents pay for their stupid stance eh?

According to today's Warwick Courier:

Not only did WDCs QC pull out, but he appears to have a track record of supporting nimby groups' anti-airport actions.

His recent cases have included high court actions against:

Stansted
Heathrow T5
Redhill
and London City.

That makes 4 out of 5 he's lost. No wonder he chickened out before this contest. Reasons not yet given for his desertion, but the above might suggest why.

Today's CET

Today's CET is a must read. CAECA now complaining about toy aeroplanes which they think mock them. Talk about paranoid protestors! Will have to get one when I go to Jersey next week.

Toy planes

Had to laugh at that one. In fact the 'offending' items are not sold at the airport nor have they ever been. They're from the Thomsonfly inflight range (created some months before the protest group formed so unlikely to be a deliberate attempt at offence) and they are only available onboard. So Archie must have got his from a CAECA loyalist who bit the bullet and actually flew from Coventry. I can say, with confidence, that the ones sold at Coventry are in SAS and LTU liveries - let's hope that, if these airlines have attracted protest groups in their respective home lands, they have not been duly upset by the inclusion of these models in the shop stock at Coventry.

All credit to the Coventry Evening Telegraph for allowing irony such prominence.

Have just read the article in todays CET. Made me laugh. Is this what the all powerfull CAECA are reduced to???

Made me wonder though. How do they know about these toy planes, as they are only sold on the A/C. Don't tell me that one of them went over to the dark side and got on a Thomsonfly flight.

Which jersey are you on next week?

I'm on the morning flight on Monday, back same day - just doing a quick recce & test out of TOM service.

Skypartners, have you sourced the suppliers of these toy jets? I think they could become a cult purchase. If you'll excuse the really bad pun, I think you could do a "roaring" trade in them.

Courier security "breach"

Could anyone "in the know" comment further on this. I've always understood that the Southern side of the runway is much more heavily guarded than the northern side - due to different levels of security zoning? It certainly proves the Courier's bias against the airport, and gives the antis another excuse to start bleating.

A Courier journalist exposed security flaws at Coventry Airport this week when he walked unchallenged to its runway.

Chief reporter Peter Ormerod gained access to the airfield on Monday through a gap between two buildings on the north side of the Baginton site - raising concerns about its vulnerability to a terrorist attack. He was eventually apprehended by staff and questioned by police before being released.

Mr Ormerod was acting on a tip-off from nearby residents who have long argued that it is too easy for members of the public to get to important areas of the airport. Managers claimed in Feburary that security would be tightened before the launch of no-frills airline Thomsonfly in March - but the Courier's investigation suggests there is still work to do.

Mr Ormerod, 25, said: "The most shocking aspect was not that it was possible, but that it was so easy.

"I was amazed at how straightforward I found it to get onto the airfield - and once I was there, it felt as if I could do anything I wanted. It's worrying to think about the trouble someone with more malicious intentions could cause.

"Even though the chances may be slim, anybody could carry guns or bombs onto the airfield and use them against people, property or aeroplanes - and they would find no difficulty in doing so.

"I'm aware my actions could have been dangerous, but hopefully they will serve as a wake-up call to prevent anything more serious happening in the future."

Warwick and Leamington MP James Plaskitt hailed the investigation as a "valuable service to the community". He said: "This proves the perimeter security at the airport is hopeless.

"Its managers say it complies with regulations, but it patently isn't all right. This was the first issue I raised with the transport minister in the House of Commons earlier this year, and it is a matter of great concern that it hasn't been resolved. It should not be operating if it cannot be properly secured."

A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority told the Courier it was a matter for the Department for Transport. A spokesman for the department called Mr Ormerod's actions "irresponsible" and doubted whether they could have posed a security risk, but admitted they did raise concerns about safety.

Coventry Airport spokeswoman Kimberley Kay said: "The tenant - Airpark - where the breach occurred has apologised to the airport for not securing his site and has assured the airport that this has now been resolved.

"The area where the breach occurred is not part of the airport's restricted zone as designated by the Department for Transport. The correct action was taken by the airport team.

"The airport is constantly reviewing its security to ensure that CAA and government guidelines are met ensuring a safe and effective operation."

Skypartners,

Just got back from a lovely week in Spain, the two journeys by Thomsonfly were excellent, on time and quick to get our luggage.
But I have to say, those strawberry and custard pastries you sell in the terminal are fantastic! :-)

Has anyone seen CAECA website recently? As of 22/06/04 the website has been suspended due to unacceptable intimidation and harasment.

In praise of the Grauniad

1. Dakota Diner is not in a cargo shed or any other kind of shed.
2. To prepacked sandwiches add "freshly made in the airports own kitchens, together with fresh salads and fresh baked pastries".

Hm - I knew I shouldn't have made him pay for his coffee!

Nice to see the "useful links" from the article fail to include thomsonfly, tui, coventry airport or even the antis website, what was it again, oh yes www.warwickdc.gov.uk/

A quick course in journalism in the 21st century for that scribbler please.
