flightmapping -

I say again, heckling is not appropriate behaviour for consultation forums. I could send you a copy of the guidelines if you want.

gobfa, Warkman

I am well aware of the rules that define permitted development. Perhaps some of you guys would be well advised to read the relevant regulations carefully, rather than Kimberly Kays PR spin. The 'less than 500sq m terminal' rule is certainly not the only criterion to be met.

Warkman
Unsustainable accusations? - Not at all. I have no intention of apologising. James Avery was the one barracking those who said anything he didnt like!

Were you there?
Or are you posting comments from someone else.
if it is from someone else, then you are makingb accusations without having the evidence.
Please supply the name of your contact as then Flightmapping would have the right of reply.

All you are doing is spreading hearsay.

Here we go again! The total permitted development is the argument to be decided by the Planning Inspector!
It is not for you, nor I to make styatements that the airport is coreect or not.
Your position is that they are over the PD my position is that they are not.
If WDC read the relavent regulations correctly then they would no be in this mess.

I for one think that Skypartner is spot on...I was dubious as to CVT and TUI pulling this one off, I stated this and once it was running I wished it well. Due to the illness and eventual death of a family member I had to arrange numerous flights in and out of CVT for family members from Palma. I have nothing but praise for this airport the way its run and the superb attitude of the staff, TUI offered ridiculously cheap flights at short notice ie: with one days notice I managed to find £20 a ticket from Palma!! The security staff at the airport were very helpful this carried on all throughout the airport. A refreshing change from other airports. CVT may be small but they treat their customers far far better.
I hope CVT continues to grow and the hard working staff there get the recognition they deserve. Big thanks to the likes of Skypartner that have convinced "doubters" like me that this CAN work
So thats my two penny worth.

Quite simply TUI should have launched from an airport with proper facilities. They could have opened a base at Coventry once the infrastructure was officially in place. I bet TUI never thought that they would have to buy the airport for £6m, hardly a case for a low cost launch?

Having said all of that, the publicity in and around this locality must be priceless advertising for Thomson, not only do folk know that there is an operational airport at Coventry, but also that there is a low cost airline operating from there.

It certainly has been a big hit in Coventry itself, despite the local newspaper's bias against it. Numerous work colleagues have used the new facilities, and many people didn't even know Coventry had an airport. Now they certainly do.

I also know a lot of people from Northamptonshire/Bedfordshire/Herfordshire who have used CVT in preference to Gatwick -- same distance, but CVT is easier to get to.

Twostroke:

"James Avery was the one barracking those who said anything he didnt like!"

You weren't there, so you really aren't in a position to comment, unless as Warkman says, you name your source, or get the source to come on this forum and speak for his or herself.

A heckle is totally different to being shouted down, which happens every time anyone tries to challenge CAECA.

As for rules, CAECA should go back and learn about the ethics of setting up a reputable campaign group. I'd suggest:

1) Don't fill your website with lies
2) When you are corrected by facts, as has happened on issues such as runway length, accident risk, wild exaggerations on pollution claims, allegations of drugs being dropped off, Coventry being a magnet for asylum seekers, to name but a few, withdraw your statement, or at least publish the evidence to back up your claims.

Until you yourself bring a bit more evidence to your claims, I regard this matter as closed.

James

Thomsonfly seem to be spending an awful lot on advertising 20,000 cut-price, bargain basement seats this week, maybe things aren't going as swimmingly as they like to portray. Must be costing them an absolute fortune to rid themselves of these few seats. Smacks of pure desperation to us consumers. Going the way of Duo sooner than we thought maybe?

BTW , anyone know when the mandatory public safety zone will be put into effect around the airport? And, when are they going to upgrade the airspace from Class G, we Coventry people are starting to feel a little nervous about this blatent use of uncontrolled airspace over our homes, especially in light of that near-miss splashed all over the front page of the Coventry Telegraph last week.

yawn. Ryanair and Easy do it all the time. As do Sainsburys, Tesco and every other company. Its called marketing.

As for the rest I think that has all been delt with elsewhere on these threads.

"Marketing" - I suspect Thomsonfly have little need for marketing, thanks to all the magnificent free publicity that CAECA have given the operation.
Well done the NIMBYs, a glorious own goal, and thanks for all the entertainment given on these threads - the sound of straws being grasped at has been truly hilarious!

Richardms,
Speak for youself! I'm not worried at all by Thomsonfly, and I live in Coventry. Luckily, I'm not as ignorant as you, and a slight bit of research highlights the CETs disgraceful headline as being woefully inaccurate.

a) There was NO near miss.
b) It didn't happen over Coventry (The incident was about 15 miles away.)
c) There was an airprox this year in BHX airspace. Are you clamouring for it to be closed? No, thought not.

It must be nice being so ignorant and relying on a 2nd rate local newspaper to do your thinking.

Also,
PSZs are determined by flights - number, weight & other factors. They don\'t just slap one down because a few NIMBYs in Bubbenhall think there should be one!

CAECA and PSZs - and the story that houses will have to be demolished. This in not true, as PSZs in the UK allow existing developments to stay. Further development inside the PSZ is not allowed.

There\'s a complex set of calculations to determine the PSZ - based upon aircraft movement numbers, aircraft type, safety record of aircraft.

Of course, to the no-brainers in CAECAs it\'s a simple case of "draw a circle on a map". A bit like a Airprox suddenly becomes a disaster, or how WDC losing their court case doesn\'t mean anything (See the comment on www.coventry-airport-the-facts.com). These people are plain stupid, unable to distuingish fact from blatant lies, and unable to see beyond their own backyard.

Skypartners

we are flying out of CVT on Saturday afternoon.

What goodies in terms of food etc are you providing in the terminal, that I can spend my cash on to boost your takings?

RichardMS31,

Give it up Y, its all over, this is one fight you have lost
Hugs and kisses XX

Wolf from the door!hI

Hi Wark

There's 2 cafes, one in Rapide House (the business aviation centre) and one in departures. My advice is check your bags in and then go to Rapide House for scoff and a decent airside view of the apron.

In departures there is also a very small gift shop selling papers, books, smellies etc.

If you wanna say hi I expect I'll be there. Ask for Marc from Skypartners. What flight r u on?

Grrr

So if, and I say if, the TUI lo-co thing does not work a couple of years down the road, what happens to Coventry as they own it?

An airline owning an airport, all rather odd in the quest for cheapness.

We all know that TUI are dumping low priced tickets in a swamped market and those fares will have to rise within a couple of years, therefore will folk travel a fair distance to fly from Coventry against flying from a local airport for the same fare?

No!

Thomson and EuJet planes will be full whilst the loss leaders are available. Once the fares rise, as they will, punters will always vote with price, than quality access and amenities, TUI will need to invest to keep those punters.

TUI will have a budget and a good business plan, I am sure buying Coventry has eaten rather deeply into their purse?

Skypartners,

we are on TOM15 to Malaga, 16:40 hrs on Saturday.

Probably arrive an hour before. Will have our 2 and half year old, who already loves aircraft with us :-0

As we live only 15 mins from the airport, we have a friend dropping us off. I LOVE these local airports :-)

Look forward to it

I wonder what news Richardms31 has in store for you? Hope it's more factual than the nonsense that usually trips off those fingers .

I feel very sorry for that poor old Michael O'Leary of Ryanair, what with fares tumbling 14%, net profits fell 5pc and likely to fall again this year. He believes some rivals will go bust next winter and most of the rest 'within two years'. Still, at least Ryanair have proper terminals and facilities to operate from and don't have to put up with WDC and anti-airport expansion protesters, that should help him.

Shall I come up and tell you Marc?

er have you seen some of the terminals Ryanair use? Some right dumps that make Coventry look posh.
And ryanair ONLY made £152m this quarter.

M O'L

Richard, I'm sure M O'L is glad you feel sorry for him.

One side of me just wishes it was FR who were operating from CVT. At least O'Leary doesn't take any c**p. I'm sure he would have pulled some good stunts against WDC. Then again, I don't think they would have bought the airport, and there's lots of destinations TOM are going to which FR would not have touched with a bargepole (JER, VCE, MRS etc to name a few).

Still, Richard, in case you hadn't realised, the war is over re: Coventry Airport. Tell me how else you could interpret the court ruling - it was a total whitewash, pure and simple. Go and re-read the verdict, then find some other kiddies to play with.

Sorry, only nipped in here waiting for the very slow Manchester airport website to load. Has anyone looked at CAECA lately? They have an attempt at satire claiming TOM are on the way to Finningley, and moving out of CVT.

ROFL
