Absolutely fantastic news. Yet another new route for Manchester. It is fast becoming a long-haul hub. This is especially welcome as it occurs during the slower winter season. I expect it will be seasonal.

Regards

Problem is MAN is running out of room. No one likes hard stand operations

True enough, but this shouldn't be as much of a problem over the "winter" season.

MAN-MIA has to be the worst kept secret this year - I had heard this back in late December and was just waiting for AA to announce.......

I don't know why they just didn't come out then - unless they were waiting to get a deal sorted with P&O cruises......

To add a bit more fuel to fire ,the PLC called a meeting last week to discuss increasing the runway capacity before the winter slot conference in June ! Apparently they were succesful in getting an extra 2 per hour . The capacity will now be 61 per hour
,available 06-10 hrs and 16-19 hrs. Never in winter as far as I know has the airport needed a 59 movements capacity , nevermind upping it ! Informed people tell me that a 'large' programme has been submitted and this has lead to the increase.

I thought that Ryanair announced they would not expand routes out of Manchester a few years ago, after the PLC impounded one of their 1-11's. Or was it a 737?

And how will established airlines such as BACX feel about reduced handling charges to Ryanair? Or will Ryanair pay the same rates as everyone else? If so, would they come to an airport with a higher cost base - surely they'd prefer to expand out of Liverpool?
