Teesside - Turkey Flight Cancelled

Heard last night that a friend of mine who is travelling from Teesside to Turkey on a summer charter this year have had their flight cancelled and told they must go from Newcastle.

I'm presuming the flight was a MYT flight? Can anyone confirm? If so, doesn't this contradict the claim that MYT pulling out of Teesside won't affect the passengers?

Anyone have an update on the Teesside Summer Schedule?

Conversely, my MYT flight from NCL to PMI was cancelled and I was told I would have to fly from MME with JKK. I kicked off though, and got a flight a day later from NCL.

MYT blamed "lack of sales" for my flight as the reason, so maybe the same is true here.

Local reports on Costa del Sol say tour operators are reporting a down in bookings of 25% this year. It is not surprising if other areas are experiencing similar reductions in reservations.

This is something I have been predicting for a while on the CdS as the number of people owning their own holiday accomodation grows, IT operators will feel the pinch. Hence the growth in LCCs and flight only sales.

For example, Mijas Council have approved the building of a further 10,000 homes in what is now called "Golf Valley", going inland from La Cala, with several more golf courses under construction.

The situation for IT operators will only get worse as more people find their own holiday accomodation.

Is it surprising, that one of the first destinations for start up LCCs is Malaga?

I think MyTravel have aimed to cause as little disruption as possible to its passengers from MME. Considering they have had to pull their a/c out of MME I don't think there has been that much disruption, just a shame that your friend has been told to fly from NCL, maybe the dates they wanted were not availible on the OHY flights MME-DLM or the return, im sure there is a valid reason. I havn't heard of anyone else having problems, but im sure its the last resort the had.
There will be one or two flight that maybe can't be ad-hoced out to other carriers cos they mite not be able to op the flight.
As for the cancellation of the NCL-PMI flight, dont know why that was cancelled mate, try taking it up with ya travel agent, You'll actually find that MYT are doing more flights to Palma this year that last. 1x Mon AM 1x Wed AM and 2x Sat departures.

I'm at a bit of a loss too, because we wanted to book an extra person on to our holiday in January and were told the flight was "full" - in actual fact I think MYT had already made the decision to pull the flight.

We were booked on a Friday departure MYT1821/2 (ETD2125, ETA0355), but now have been rebooked on one the saturday 1545 departure, which aint all that bad because at the time we booked the Saturday departure was £150 more expensive.

When I got in touch with MYT they wanted me to pay the £150pp to avoid flying from MME, but they backed down after a while, and I even got them to throw in free inflight meals! Travel agent takes the same line as the MYT letter, "lack of sales", "these things can change as plans are finalised".

To be honest, I couldn't see where the flight would fit into MYTs flight plans anyway, because the 2 based aircraft were both out on other sorties at 2125 on Fridays. Methinks there was a cock-up in scheduling somewhere along the line, but maybe i'm wrong.

It seems that there has been a few IT flights from Teesside cancelled from what was proposed in the brochures and on the airports website.

Just a quick look and it seems flights to Gran Canaria (Sat night), Malaga, Rhodes, Tenerife (Tue) and Bodrum (Sun) and Dalaman (Tue) have all been cancelled. And I think I saw someone post that the Balkan flights were possibly also going to be cancelled. Is this amount of consolidation going on at all airports in the UK? I know that MyTravel pulling their based aircraft has had some effect, but they have replaced it with a Spanair aircraft, which could have done exactly the same amount of flights as the based MyTravel aircraft.

I understand also that MyTravel are using bmibaby for Malaga flights. Is this the first time a tour operator have used a low cost airline? It will be interesting to see how it works. Will Mytravel clients pay the same for the flight as if they booked directly with bmibaby?

The Humberside-Rhodes flight appears to have been cancelled

I think MME will be more than OK this year in terms of passenger numbers with the launch of bmibaby up there

Our flight from Exeter to Crete has also been cancelled for the whole summer. We were given an alternative flight from Gatwick which is over 250 miles away! No other alternatives were offered.
The flights from Gatwick were both during the night also.

Also looks like the Humberside-Varna flight has been cancelled. So 2 new destinations Varna and Rhodes have been cancelled already, before the season has even begun!

Will Spanair be basing crews at Teesside or will they just be doing nightstops from Spanish bases (some of the nightstops look pretty short!)

Observation - Balkan Holidays (the main operator to Bulgaria) seem to cancel whole flight series frequently. Perhaps there just aren't enough punters going there.

from what i hear, the spanair crews will do about 1 week of flights, then get off in say ALC, PMI TFS etc and another crew will get on, and then they will work for a week out of MME

3x crews based in hotel at MME at any one time
thats just what ive heard, not for deffinate.
