Why won't EasyJet launch any new routes out of Nottingham East Midlands?
I have heard several rumours from you guys recently including a possible 7-aircraft base, the arrival of an all Airbus A319 fleet this year and the swapping of all based Boeing 737-300s to 737-700s. But nothing seems to be happening.
Does anyone inside EasyJet know EMA's strategy this year?
Cheers.

Interesting rumours and personal thoughts serko & dwlpl, but not substansiated.
EZY and FR co exist at LTN and STN, but at EMA the currently don't compete, unless you count GRO against BCN.
Granted, WW and FR are head to head on all of FR's EMA routes, but watch WW closely, nothing ever stays the same!
EZY and FR are both predators, very aggressive, and at the top end of the food chain. baby.......isn't.

Maybe my thoughts will be wrong. But nothing will be substansiated, one way or another, until Finningley comes online.
Remember also that EZY was one of the airlines said to favour Finningley proposals to open up to commercial airlines and Peel Holdings (the owners of Finningley) do not tend to build speculatively.

As I see it, then, from what's been said...........
If Easyjet and Ryanair won't be competing on specific routes, then that will, to some extent, allow them to co-exist at NEMA.
If WW and Ryanair are going to be duplicating routes, then that could lead to over-capacity on those routes.
Something has to give and it looks like the tussle will be between Ryanair and WW.
With WW reputed to be operating at a loss, I can't see EZY pulling out of NEMA. Provided EZY are'nt losing money at NEMA, all they have to do is wait for the inevitable collapse of WW.
Or have I got it all wrong ? -- I'm no NEMA specialist. I'd welcome any corrections to the above (accurate ones, mind you).

Hello all
Well i work for easyjet at NEMA and i can honestly say, we are here to stay. I spoke to my base manager about this and she confirmed that we have a future at the airport.
We as crew do wonder why we don't get new routes but may be they are weighing up the situation first.
Rumours ( i mean these are rumours ) are that we are mean't to be getting Paris orly, Nice, Rome and Madrid, also talk of a night time Athens during the olympics, which would be great.
Like i say the above statement is rumour, so hopefully it will pull off.
If there is anyone out there who knows more, fill us in....
Mike

I'm with you on that Anthony. A good summary of the situation. Love 'em or hate 'em, it can't be denied that Ryanair are brilliant at what they do!
A few price comparisons:-
EMA DUB 19MAY04 DUB EMA 26MAY04
WW 0700 0800 1825 1925 £67.93
FR 0835 0935 1425 1525 £20.35
EMA MJV 12JUN04 MJV EMA 19JUN04
WW 1410 1750 1850 2030 £153.88
FR 1550 1935 2000 2140 £107.13
EMA BCN 19MAY04 BCN EMA 26MAY04
WW £95.88 EZY 80.98
EMA GRO Same dates
FR 39.13
Great news from Mike16. EZY have plans and intentions. FR stated in their Press Release when they moved the BHX flights that they hope to grow Nottingham EMA to over 2 million FR pax per year within 4 years.
Unless Tiny can grow a bit we could well be soon singing "Bye Bye, Baby, Bye Bye!" as one of the predators eats it up.
And who knows!? Sir Michael would probably love to chuck the baby out with the bath water as bmi mummy is being prepared for marriage to her handsome Virgin suitor.

But it must be also remebered that out of the 12 UK airports served by EZY East Midlands has not had a new route introduced since 2002, a point only bettered by Aberdeen (in 1996).
But as I said before only time will tell who is right.

A word of caution when comparing prices of these carriers. With the way fares are structured at the low cost airlines, the higher price of the two may actually show who has the most bookings so far.
I hope all three can succeed at NEMA but I suspect in time that FR will be the benchmark in terms of prices. Question is, can the other two compete??

Ryanair may be the benchmark on the routes where they compete head-head, but on the other routes the airlines can charge "what they want". The other airlines don't have the low cost base that Ryanair have so they couldn't match their levels on all their routes.
The highest fare doesn't necessarily mean that they have the highest loads.

Quick question about Easy and not wanting to hijack this interesting thread about Nottingham EMA.
Does Easy have a base at Nice and if not what is the likelihood of there ever being one?
Thank you.
