Booked revenue for TUI UK's W03/4 season is currently 7% ahead of last year with summer 7.2% up, according to TUI Northern Europe chief executive Peter Rothwell.

Speaking at this week's ITB exhibition on TUI AG's home patch, Rothwell gave the German trade a comprehensive overview of the UK performance.

Rothwell revealed that W03/4 volumes are 5.2% ahead of W02/3, with prices 7% ahead, leading to the 7% volume lift. Within this he noted 3% growth from winter sun and 10% from the specialist holidays group.

SO4 volumes are 1.5% ahead, with a 28% year-on-year improvement over the past four weeks. Short-haul prices are 4% ahead.

For both winter and summer TUI UK is increasing market share.
Rothwell also revealed that the UK division is aiming for 15% of its booking to come via the web, excluding the impact of Thomsonfly. If the bookings for the soon-to-launch low-cost carrier are factored in, TUI UK wants 24% of its bookings to come online. He pointed out that TUI UK is selling more package holidays online then Expedia.

A breakdown of the UK distribution patterns shows 39% of sales coming through Lunn Poly shops, 30% direct and 31% from third parties. Its SHG product has less exposure in the shops with 40% of their bookings made through call centres.

Although Rothwell talked up the emergence of non-Euro destinations such as Turkey and Bulgaria, Spain is still its number one summer destination, accounting for 63% of all sales so far - 32% for the Balearics, 17% for mainland and 14% for the Canaries.

Cruise gets a mention, with Rothwell talking up 99% occupancies and strong earnings growth. S04 cruise bookings are 33% ahead.
