JetMagic revisted.
JetMagic's original business plan relied on a few key routes ie LCY and BRU, to be supported by mainly Corkonian business passengers, which unfortunatly for them, never materialised.
Fair enough the delay in getting certification for LCY and the expensive hire-ins did not help matters especially with the paltry €5million start up kitty, but many regular Cork business travellers stuck with the earlier EI710 and the Heathrow Express! Jetmagic DID have competition, although not direct, it was nonetheless there.
When LCY did get up and running, colleagues of mine sometimes counted only 3-4 Pax on the early morning LCY! Bit like a fractional private jet operator, but doesn't satisfy the business plan which relied on this route being a big winner.
In hindsight concentrating on the leisure destinations, Alicante, Barcalona etc would have been better than messing around with LCY and BRU. With 2 such demanding airports as LCY and ORK, if you want reliability of service etc, EI's 321's to LHR win hands down.
Also this summer EI would have hammered them with a B737 over a EMB135/145 on their money making Euro leisure routes. Business is Business. Better to quit now before the losses got out of control.
Now JetGreen, they are relying on AGP and ALC, have they budgeted in the business plan for a fare war against Ryanair, CityJet and a now cocky Willie Walsh who could just put the A330-300 on it just for the craic?!!? Plus it'd free up a A321 in the morning to go off somewhere else e.g. Nice/Dubrovnik.
So JetMagic could well be revisited by JetGreen, no contract as yet with Air Atlanta who seem to be a bit a bemused by the whole thing. They DO have competition and lots of it. Do they have sufficient funding for a summer of discontent? Do they have the right Management? And do they have the right business plan?
After the FreshAer debacle and the current lack of an Aircraft etc it all looks highly suspect to me. And this First class thing, give me a break, EI used to have a faily busy premier but mainly with frequent winter business travellers using up their TAB points for the famlily Hols etc and mega rich Dublin Drug Barons!!!! Apart from them it's the bucket and spade brigade all round!!
