Cougar reborn

Word on the street is that Cougar is on its way back with Seven Thirty Sevens.

Anyone else heard the whisper?

Globespan

Sorry if I missed something, but where is the tie up between Scotlands new low cost carrier and the the new Cougar.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News Flyglobespan.com is to launch out of Edinburgh on March 8th. Its chairman being Tom Dalrymple. Not found any links to Keith Newnham or the artists formally known as Cougar.

Can you enlighten me???

Coop & Bear

Seems the only new proposed operators are, according to Jethro's Fleet Listings:-

Islandair Jersey--Plans to operate Jersey to Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia with additional Stansted flights to link up with Ryanair and Easyjet connections.

Hop Airways--Cambridge New domestic operator with ATR42/72. to commence July 2004

GCI--Guersey to Biringham,Leeds and Edinburgh. Possible fleet Dornier DO328JET

Fly BLU Birmingham Boeing 762 first flight due 3 June 2004

NOW Based Luton Were to have commenced Feb 04 but due to late delivery of ex Easyjet 737-300's late launch. Upgrade to 737-700 during 2004.

Globespan seems to be linked with Channex and Air Atlanta.

I reckon Cougar's new guise is yet to be unearthed!

Globespan purchased the AOC from Cougar when they closed down.
You cannot 'purchase' an AOC. What you can purchase is the company that holds the AOC. However, buying an insolvent company means you are also buying its 'debts'.

Whenever a transfer of ownership occurs, the CAA will take a closer look at the individuals who are buying into the company. They will also want to make sure that the notified postholders are still in place.

People who try to 'buy' an AOC are obviously trying to escape the scrutiny of the CAA. But little do they know, as they also need an operating licence, and that's where most of these cowboys (especially those with no money) come unstuck !!!

I am well aware of that and im sure globespan are as well, I would hardly call them cowboy's

Perhaps there were debts associated with Cougar's demise there may have also been assets i.e. an AOC !

Just checked the CAA's Type A Operating Licence Holders list and globespan, or flyglobespan or whatever else they call themselves are nowhere to be seen in it.

Don't be fooled. They may hold themselves out to be an airline, but they are not. They are a tour operator, chartering aircraft from 'real' airlines !

Channex operate 1 737 for Globespan, Islandsflug another, Globespans own crews have been training at GECAT some of them are ex Cougar employees. The AOC is the Cougar Leasing one. I think that Cougar Leasing is now part of Globespan.

charterguy,

Perhaps the AOC isnt in the name of Globespan perhaps, as
4Screwaircrew comments, the Cougar Leasing AOC may be held by Globespan without a name change....

Surely this "venture" is another scam as I can confirm that Messrs KN and JF are indeed involved with FlyGlobespan. Operational base is STN where "a close ongoing working relationship with the CAA can be maintained". Yup, it's Cougar all over again.

Well thanks all you guys for the info. Seems that there is a Globespan connection.

Now I have posted on here before regarding KN so I dont want to beat my gums all over again.

All I can say is that when Sabre were sold to become Excell, it was a profitable airline run with a good deal of skill and effort. For a small outfit like that to survive against the bigger fish, I think you have to have some reasonable management attributes.(KN)

Oh and by the way, Sabre started up on Air Foyle's AOC before they got there own. It was legit and extremely well run. The CAA were quite happy with the situation. Airlines buy or use AOC's of other companies to speed up launch dates. It doesnt mean necessarily that the deal is of a underhanded nature.

No doubt this post will draw in some ex Cougar guys to tell me otherwise but then thats what forums are all about!
