It's a fairly close tie up at the moment with Air Atlanta already provding the 757/767 fleet. It would be a fair assumption that any 747 operation would be initiated as an Air Atlanta operation.

I have heard that they were approached by a big name tour operator to become "ready" to take on a big florida programme from LGW and MAN as they had heard that the current contracted B747 operator was (and to my knowledge still are) in major financial doo-doo.....and may well turn belly in the next few weeks!

Air Atlanta Europe are already looking at a huge expansion over last year.
Bases will open March 13th, with a program to Orlando, and possibly the Excel Caribbean program from LGW.
Peak season will see 15 Orlando flights a week, 8 from MAN and 7 from LGW. Las Vegas will also be served, one flight a week from each base, along with the standard short haul flights.

a) Why would Excel put their Caribbean programme on an Air Atlanta 747 if they have just taken on their own 767-300 for it?
b) Isn't all of this extraordinarily bad news for European?

There are rumours that the revised Excel sep manuals will be almost identical to those of Air Atlanta. Have also heared that it is eventually planned to have all 767-200s, 767-300s and 757s all on the UK register with Atlanta Europe to simplify things. Would be one step further to include the 747s in this.
At the moment we are fleeted
737-800/757-200 (G-reg, excel/TF-reg icelandic)
767-200/767-300 (G-reg, Atlanta Europe/TF-reg Atlanta Icelandic)
Also all permanent crew are being asked to obtain US vias asap. event though we dont currently operate to the US.
Plans for long haul east this year.

This definately looks like the programme that was on Europeans B747`s. If the Tour Op is pulling the flights from EAF then that is terminal for them - however, this could be a back-up plan just in case the new investors do not finalise a deal before the plug gets pulled. It would be a huge shame to see European go, I know a lot of people have worked so hard there over the past 9 years or so.

The tour operator that has used EAF 747s to SFB in the last few years is Travel City Direct is it not??
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't they involved in a takeover of EAF along with Bath Travel? (Did this ever go ahead?)
Why would Travel City Direct pull thr programme from the carrier they were (nearly) so closely related to? Doesn't seem to add up?
Unless they know something we do not?

XL one, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
The 747s are already on the G register, no plans at present to do so with the 75s.
You wont be fleeted that way come April.
We asked you to get US visas cos we want to operate worldwide and the yanks now demand a visa. If you want to go to Canada with Kelowna, Miami Air in...er...Miami, or pick up an aircraft from Seattle, you will need a US visa. SFB is not the only American airfield. And we are trying to get all the 73 pilots done slowly....
Long haul east is fixed.
Flightrider
We havent just taken on our own 767-300, its Atlanta's. And they do our Caribbean programme anyway with it, dont they IrishCC?
And EAC continue to do the SFB....
So in answer to the opening question, no Excel are not buying 747s to do SFBs out of MAN. There may well be an AAE 747 in Excel colours in MAN, and it may end up going to SFB. But as Colegate says, with them Peach Air boys selling things...... anything is possible

Bath Travel bought EAF - with more finance expected to come.
Finance to date has not come = impending doom!
Travelocity were the charterer of the Orlando flights, and are very twitchy by all accounts

smartercharter, the main issue at European is that the take-over by the group of individuals including those who own Bath Travel has not gone through. To the best of my knowledge, there is absolutely no question of the financial standing of Bath Travel as your post would imply. On paper at least, EAC is apparently still owned by Paul Stoddart & co.

Sorry about that Flightrider - I was lead to believe that the Bath Travel thing had happened some time ago, and that the extra finance from other members of the consortium had not arrived.
I stand corrected.........and will wind my neck back in appropriately!

Excel in the US........
.......and EAF/E7 in this thread......
I reckon we're going off at a tangent here people.....
I have some insider knowlegde of EAC and what is going on currently within the company.
I'll post a new thead...
smartercharter - Bath Travel and TRAVELCITY are just 2 investors of a group of 11 who would/will/have formed a company called European Aviation Group. I'll tell all later on....
