myt:base closures!!

just found out for any body interested that myt will be closing their base at teeside from the 1st of april. they are also closing down leeds bradford but this will only be a partial closure it will be a summer base and closed during the winter. during the summer the base will be operated by skyservice, the 75 operating out of there will be going back to manchester. hope the closure of these bases will keep them afloat, we'll see!!!

Perhaps the challenge from the loco's is hurting them.
I had my holliday cancelled by them a year ago at short notice and ended up sorting my own package using Jet2 from LBA. I found it easier and cheaper in the end despite the short notice booking and have booked with Jet2 again this year. At least I wont be offered a flight from MAN or LGW as an alternative or a flight at some unearthly hour. Nor will I have my accommodation changed at short notice or alternate dates offered for my holiday!
My sympathy is thin, though I'd hate to see any company go under, I was treated shabbily by MYT and had to wait nearly 6 weeks to get my money back and only then after many peak rate calls and letters of complaint.
Let them run back to their main bases to save their skins but with Easy now at LGW and Baby at MAN they'll have their work cut out there too.

Confirmed Teesside to close and Leeds going to summer only with Canadian aircraft.

All the best to those affected.

I hope MYT can see this through with the reduced flying and all the best to those who have been affected.

Have found out that the Teesside programme is now to be flown by a foreign carrier on reduced capacity.

Good luck to all involved.

Really? I didnt think Mytravel ever had a base a MME? Apart from the Skyservice 320 a/c that was based there for the past few years during the summer there never has been a permanent MYT base there??

As far as i seen it, it was always either a W from Newcastle operating the winter flights to ALC for example, and the Skyservice that was based there doing the summer programme with the W MME-REU-NCL-REU-MME.

MYT nee AIH have had a summer cabin crew base at Teesside for a number of years. Most either worked other bases during the winter or were part time. This included ground staff needed to run the base, a base is not just an aircraft & pilots.

Replacement at MME

Hi,

I've heard from a reliable source that some of the replacement flights from Teesside will be flown by Spanair MD-80 aircraft.

Presumably this will just be on the Spanish routes, which were:
Alicante
Ibiza
Las Palmas
Mahon
Malaga
Palma
Reus
Tenerife South

Other routes that were planned for the MYT based aircraft included:
Faro
Larnaca
Rhodes

Cheers,
Matt Falcus

My fault, i didnt intend on my post to make me look ignorant thinking a base was only aircraft and flight deck.

I did know they had summer cabin crew based there, but no flight deck or any of the aircraft from AIH/MYT, as it has been an A320 from Skyservice with SSV flight deck crew. I just couldnt see how someone could justify MME being a permanent base with it only being operational during summer.

NCL can be justified as a base as it has permanent cabin crew, flight deck and an a/c based at the moment along with a station manager who also looks after MME, and it also has permanent Engineering facilities (FLS aerospace)
