BEXX AIR OFFICE PROBED BY ECONOMIC POLICE
Bulgaria's Economic police closed and sealed the head office of Bexx Air in Sofia for the time of investigation into alleged air tickets sale without due license.
The company for sale of cheap tickets to European destinations announced it would reimburse the money of more than 1,000 passengers who bought their flights from their office.
Bexx Air is set to sue Bulgaria for incurred damages because of the police probe and claimed that illegal competition have most probably halted their business after paying bribe.
Bexx Air offers a reward of up to 1,000 euros for information leading to the people who paid and the ones who have taken any bribe, a company's official told bTV private channel.
For Bexx Air, which has recently been approved in its application to become a member of the European Low Fare Airlines Association, this action of the administration is absolutely illegal and against all European laws, a statement on the web site of the company says.
After six months of alleged unlicensed business and more than 20,000 passengers who preferred to fly cheaper to Europe, the probe against Becks Air was instigated by passengers complaining of the company, police said.
According to the International Air Transport Association for Bulgaria, electronic airline ticket selling has reached 7.1% out of all sales from the beginning of 2004.
Online air ticket sales become more and more popular around the world, the chief of the ATA for Bulgaria Yordan Karamalakov told reporters on Wednesday.
Some 25% of the 1,757 electronic tickets sold in Bulgaria in August alone were issued by Lufthansa, the company's General Manager for Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania Dieter Grosse announced.
British Airways also reported a growth of e-ticket sales in Bulgaria, according to the local manager of the air carrier Emil Delibashev.
Ticket sold online by the Austrian Airlines account for 14% out of the total sales.
