as a supervisor and LCE I can state quite categorically that no one on my watch is using nottingham on the R/T or telephone-I would be very suprised if anyone else on the unit is either, we are all fully aware of the potential for confusion, and know that nothing will change until or unless we can get the other nottingham to agree to change!

Hi Guy's
Well i am a Derby lad, work at EMA which is in NW leics with a Derby postcode, Derby address and Derby tel no.
To call it Nottingham is a joke, no i am not biased to notts or anything, but if you think about it, Ryanair will love it, flying PAX into NEMA, the pax gets off the plane and think they are in Notts, when in fact they are 18 miles away. A bit like there so called Barcelona destination ( Girona ) 98 kms away from BCN... Need i say more ?
I am all for Ryanair coming and wish them all the best. May be some more destinations may come our way, But it would be nice to have a proper long haul carrier like BA,AA or Continental airlines come to us for USA or something, i know there is the twice weekly monarch service to india, but i don't want to go there, BRing on the states....

I'm from Castle Donington, that town in the County of Leicestershire, with a NWLeics District Council, a Derby address and phone number and an airport newly christened Nottingham East Midlands.
The distance between EGNX and Nottingham City Centre is 15 miles, not 18. And even if it was 18, that distance bares no similarity to the distance from Gerona airport to Barcelona!
In fact the distance from EGNX to Nottingham is comparable to:
LHR to London 15 miles
CDG to Paris 16 miles
CWL to Cardiff 12 miles
Not bad ey! And alot better than:
MXP to Milan 29 mile
LGW to London 28 miles
STN to London 34 miles
MUC tro Munich 22 miles
FCO to Rome 23 miles.
Its a name. Get over it! I am sure that MAG were not in any way trying to suggest that Nottingham is a better place to live, work, a city with a bigger, or faster growing population or better football team - the decission was made on one major factor - one - which name would make the most money. That's it, as simple as that.
I personally don't care what they call it - as long as they deliver on their wishes to develope more airlines, routes and frequencies. I am looking forward to seeing the airport offer the whole area more jobs and inbound tourists.
And since the name change, so far at least, it has all been good news.
No doubt many teenagers in Derby, Nottingham and Leicester will continue to sling mud at each other for generations to come. But hopefully most of us in the aviation/travel/transport industry are a little wiser to the importance of commercially advantageous decissions. The name Nottingham East Midlands being one of them.
Rant over.

Hi
I think you guys have got me wrong, i am not anti Notts at all. in what way has it brought good news ? Ryanair were planning on coming here over 12 months ago, they have already set up there flight deck training centre at EMA well over 6 months ago.
It is to soon to say that are major changes yet, we have to give it 6 months at least to see a result .
I wish all the airport the sucess in the world after all i do work there.
